2003 is a no-brainer. USC was hands-down the best team in the country and was ranked #1 in both polls at the end of the season, but you avoided them because of BCS formula hooey.

As I said, they are 'somewhat' knowledgable.

Last year, they were playing better than just about anybody at the end of the season, certainly better than Ohio State.....and you backed into the championship game despite having 2 losses and 2 more near-losses by leapfrogging other teams with only one loss.....because biased poll voters decided that playing in the SEC automatically made your schedule harder than anybody else's.
Hoo boy
Other than an opinion poll there's zero room to say USC might have been better than LSU in 2003 IMO. Leinart and Bush weren't as developed as they would be in 04 and 05. Leinart esp tended to lock in on one receiver and just trust Williams was going to take the ball from the DB. As Corey Webster is probably too nice to tell you he was a better college player and he's a better pro than Williams was - I like this matchup very much thank you
Every computer ranked LSU way ahead of USC that year because they had played a much tougher schedule and crushed most of those teams (and USC still lost a game)
USC played a total of ONE team that would finish the year ranked before they played in the Rose Bowl that year... they would have been in the Sugar Dome for the National Championship if they had gotten the bid
Regarding the comment about USC being better last year? Based on what? They dropped a couple stupid games after all... It's a rare talking head that believes they were better... and they had a worse QB than they appear to now (Booty not Sanchez)... they wouldn't have scared me like they would scare me this year

What you have to realize is that guys like Finebaum and Cowherd stir things up intentionally.
The difference is Cowherd has strong opinions, but backs them up and is right much more than he is wrong. Finebaum just has strong opinions.

Stop listening to him!!! He only plays to the LA market.

USC was hands down the best team in the country just like Ole Miss was hands down Western Division Champs in 2003. Maybe you could lobby USC into hanging a banner too.

Sounds to me like he is a Lou Holtz wanna be, so yeah he is just an idiot!

Putting a strong emphasis on SOS and quality wins is "formula hooey?"

How does having two decent teams, Oklahomo and Missouri, elevate an entire conference to supremacy????
Posted on 9/16/08 at 1:37 pm to PinevilleTiger
Ummm...I think decent is an understatement.

Both of these teams are national championship caliber. Decent is definately not a good word to describe them.

mizzou is definetely not national championship caliber. illinois scored pretty easy on that defense. the same illinois that almost lost to usl. ou will destroy mizzou.

Getting sick of hearing about USC's might...they are good on a continous basis but the last two BCS champs were just that and no one can take that away with friggin' WHAT IFS!!!!! We R SEC baby...any place any where any day...I gaurantee unlike OSU we WILL show up. Watch UCLA or Stanford bitch slap them again.. enough already!

but, seriously, the SEC is lacking in the QB department and the Big12 is enjoying a nice stable of QBs right now.
Bradford
Daniel
Reesing
McCoy
Harrell
Freeman
even the NU QB and CU's Hawkins
You could argue that all of these guys are better/more experienced than SEC starting QBs outside of Florida and Georgia.
Our defenses are way better, though.

I think Cowherd is pretty entertaining. Not right all the time, not an SEC/LSU homer(he does like the SEC) and not an encyclopedia of information but entertaining.
