I do disagree on needing a top 8 seed. It'd be nice, but I think by the end of the season this will be the type of team that travels well.
You may be right, but LSU has never won a Super Regional on the road. Doesn’t mean they can’t, but it’s a challenge for anyone.

I fully agree shores was a bullpen guy his first year anyway and he was wild then but I don't hate the kid by any means just want to see them succeed where they should, Cowan should take over Sunday

We just need rizy to improve his command . His fastball has a ton of run on it , i think if he gets better command he's a better version of shores. We also need ware to be better.

And Anderson is the only starter they can count on. It would be great if Cowan could fill both roles, but he can’t. The best solution is to bring him in if there is a high leverage situation before the 7th inning in Game 1 or Game 2, but start him in Game 3 if there isn’t.

I would prefer to host, but I think this team has the guts to win even on the road.

What criteria should be used to determine whether someone should start games, and how does that criteria justify Shores starting in the place of Cowan?

Cowan can throw multiple pitches for strikes; doesn't walk batters; has the durability to pitch past the fifth inning; has the skillset to go through an opponent's lineup multiple times; and has the effectiveness to neutralize an opponent's best pitcher. Shores does none of that. So why shouldn't Cowan start?

This is the second year in a row that LSU will have under-utilized its best pitcher. It's a shame.

Hasnt recorded an out since the Sunday game against Missouri. Crazy to think about. Has seen 1 batter since then in 6 games.

but the only two arms that have provided any consistent starter quality innings are gone. If Eyanson and Shores only go 3-4 innings each again, there aren’t 10-12 quality innings available out of the pen.

Eyanson could have easily given us 6 innings last weekend. It was a Jay decision to pull him for a L/L matchup that didn't work out. But he had only thrown 78 pitches through 4.1 when he was pulled. He goes 6, Evans goes 3, there's a game. Then you have Shores and the entire rest of your bullpen to get us through a game 3.

It just leaves them needing Eyanson and Shores to have their first good SEC outings of the season.

At the end of the day, we're going to have to have 2 of 3 starters have quality outings and the bullpen performing in 2/3 games the whole season to expect to win series. I honestly don't know how good Cowan would be the third time through an SEC lineup. We haven't seem him do it yet. We haven't even seen him go all the way through the lineup twice against an SEC opponent. He didn't pitch against us last year in the regional, and he didn't pitch against any P4 teams last year in any game.

What we do know is he is really good in his role in long relief. We need guys like him and Evans. If we move one of those to starting roles, that means Shores or Eyanson get moved to the long relief roles. You can pick your poison there. Would you rather Shores be the new Cowan?

The same is true for Eyanson and Shores. At the moment, of the 3, Cowan is the only one showing he can shut SEC opponents down for 3-4 innings, so he seems the most capable of going 6-7. He might not be as effective the 3rd time through, but Eyanson and Shores haven’t even been effective the first time through.

I’d rather rely on Cowan to get 6-7 innings and Shores to get 3-4 than the other way around. Right now we’re only getting 3-4 out of each. Shores was very effective in SEC play in 2023 in the role Cowan is filling. He doesn’t look capable of it so far this year, but perhaps a change in role would change his mindset.
