I'm going to miss this guy next season. He was pivotal last year even as a guy that may not get a lot of credit for the CWS title. He had a great season in 2025 and came through huge against Arkansas when we needed it.
He's a vet and some of the younger guys on the team (Evans, Williams, Paz, Rickin, Theo, maybe Schmitt) will hopefully pick up on what makes him successful...
The main takeaway is that he's not afraid to pitch to contact. SP need to be able to do this to be able to go deep in games. It's not about striking out 10 guys in 5 innings while walking 5 with a 95 pitch count.
Even at this level, if you can really limit your free passes and control your pitch count, you're going to have success.
The main other takeaways are simply not giving up free passes and getting ahead in counts.
His advanced concepts are an elite change up and being able to use a 3 pitch mix with movement in any count AND throw them for strikes. He can also locate his pitches, work the corners, and keep his off speed pitches low in the zone.
I'd love to see some of our guys with the higher ceilings and FBs in the upper 90s with wipeout curves take a page or 2 out of Cowan's book.
Glad to see this guy in the purple and gold and hope he's able to make some noise beyond this season.

You picked a good day to honor him. He ‘s dealin today.
I also appreciate his contributions before today.
Nice Box ovation for a one hit, scoreless game.

His thing is good location. He doesn’t throw hard enough to make mistakes over the heart of the plate. When he was making mistakes last year he got touched up. He needs pitches like his brutal change up that looks like a strike and tails away drops off the table.

I probably did this a little prematurely
but it's a breath of fresh air to have a guy you can count on to just throw strikes and be reliable.

It's surprising his change up is so successful considering his FB is low 90s and his curve isn't a knee buckling type. He had some trouble last year when guys started sitting on it.

Love me some Cowan. The ultimate team player.
He's also all business. He doesn't do any of the celebration or talking shite. He's just out there to play ball and throw some nice breaking balls with the occasional fastball getting by you.
He was huge for us last year against Arkansas in the CWS. Without that outing, along with many others by him, we don't win number 8 last year.
