The NFL.

It’s not close to the same.

The NFL is an EXTREMELY rigid system. It has very clear rules and they can enforce them without debate or protest because of their antitrust exemption. The Union and CBA lock in all aspects of pay and dealings with the players.

The NFL is also more professional in its dealings. I have a feeling you won’t see a rule on the NFL’s books saying a 70% majority can vote a fricking team out for no reason.

The NCAA is attempting to get some of its power back with its current bill before Congress, but even with it passing they wouldn’t have the stability of the NFL with its CBA. And the conferences currently have even less stability and no current path to an antitrust exception.

Now that the SEC and other conference rules and bylaws are being tested, we see how half-asses and weak they really are. They need to get their fricking acts together.

The SEC has already been self governing with officiating for longer than I can remember. If you look at the quality of the SEC refs, I'd say we are proper fricked.

A tip of the hat to all the posters on this subject. Been a minute since I've seen a relevant informative ongoing discussion on a given subject with such good insight that doesn't end up with someone being called 'retarded' or meet me at the sonic. Well done!
(yeah I know, call me retarded now)

I’ve been trying to think of a scenario where direct competitors within a multi-billion-dollar enterprise, actively police and enforce penalties on one another, and I can’t think of a single one. There’s probably a reason you don’t see this type of thing. The enterprise will self-destruct.

Seriously, can't think of one? How about the one that college football is trying to emulate? The NFL.

I don't disagree with this. IMO, the college players will eventually organize. The NCAA or the conferences will have rigid rules set in place, and those will be hashed out between the governing body and the players organization.

In the NFL, Roger Goodell has considerable authority to impose sanctions on individual franchisees. He can do this unilaterally without oversight from team owners. From what I can tell, Greg Sankey does not have this level of authority nor are league presidents interested in giving him this amount of authority. It appears presidents have to vote on everything, which leads me back to my original comment about competitors being unable to police other competitors.

I think Ole Miss and maybe a couple of other schools want to burn LSU to the ground and would expel us tomorrow if they had the votes. I’ve felt all along that 2-3 schools were driving this whole thing while other schools in the SEC are just trying to keep their heads down.

I agree with you 100%. If Rouse and Verge were smart they’d start building a coalition. You have to think aTm was completely screwed over by the addition of Texas to the SEC. Arkansas and State revenue shoots up when we play there.
