Before we can compete for a national title, we need to start demanding that all of our players and recruits are in top condition. We have too many guys in the program and coming to the program who are fat. If these players cannot control themselves then they lack the discipline that is needed. Fix it by giving each player a target weight and demand that they meet it.

Do you think we don’t have workout and food regiments? You’re melting like we promote fat and worthless habits

We obviously do, but he's not totally wrong.

Shelvin has headed in the right direction since getting here, but still has a ways to go. Livingston showed up almost 380 pounds. Ika will show up probably around 370-380 pounds. Kardell will show up between 350-360 pounds.

Now, the coaches are doing this to themselves taking on challenges like this, but if they cant get them to get into shape, they do need to stop taking so many guys who cant keep their weight in check. IF after a year here you still arent in playing shape really, that's a problem. I'm willing to give anyone a full year to get into shape, since most arent expected to play right off the bat, but if you show up 374 and a year later are maybe 10-15 pounds under that, that's a major issue...and while blame certainly goes to the player, it goes on the coaching staff too because they decided to take on that challenge.

Ed Alexander is a bit overweight.
I dont buy Lawrence being just 17 pounds north of 300, he looks overweight.
Deculus could stand to lose A LOT of weight if he truly is going to play RT.

The coaches need to get these guys arse in gear, because it's not easy to play SEC football when you're a step slower or winded earlier than the other players you're going against.

Look tonight at Bama and Clemson's D-Lines.... They just look completely different than everyone else's. Everyone is jacked. Even our best players like Lawrence, still look fat.

All of the non-hurt players passed their conditioning tests this past summer for the first time like ever. I would say that stands to reason that the team was in shape

The bar for the conditioning test might be set pretty low if guys like Shelvin and Livingston passed it. Although I think I recall hearing about Shelvin failing several times before finally passing.

1 thing that seems odd to me is guys like Alexander and Lawrence seemingly maybe GAINING weight during the season? Lawrence came in at 6'3 317 going into fall camp supposedly, no way that dude was only 317 in that bowl game. He looked 330+ easily.

I’m not sure how they set the standards, but I’m sure it goes by height/weight/position. It’s not an exact science. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the standards upped this year for the big men with the increase of teams running hurry up.

I will say that technique more than weight seemed to be the problem this year.

He isn't quick enough to play tackle imo. He gets beat outside a lot. He's got the build, but he just can't get the first step.

maybe if he drops some lbs as you say tho.

Alabama and Clemson require their guys to weigh in almost daily. We just set off-season targets for our guys.

Perhaps. It is not conditioning. It is training for explosion and quickness. Bama has clearly passed LSU in over all athletic training. Yes weight and body fat composition has to be Monitored

Should we not take guys that are under developed too? Too light in the arse?? Weak in the weighroom?

Pretty ridiculous premise. These are high school kids. Just about all of them need some development. For the most part you are recruiting upside. Whether it be Tyrion Davis that needs to lose 20lbs or marcel brooks that needs to gain 20

Hey we really want you to come here, but only if you lose 30lbs. Or go to some other school and play against us.

That’s a fantastic recruiting pitch, we should absolutely implement that immediately. Let’s start with Ish!
