. Those games were Joe’s first games starting in college. JD is a 4th year starter now.

being coached by Herm Edwards for multiple years might actually be a net negative

The biggest difference in JB and most college qbs is he attacked the middle of the field...lots of college qbs aren't willing to throw over the middle.

I agree but here is Daniels passing chart from last year. He actually seems to prefer going over the middle

the coach has came out and said that they were focusing on being conservative and protecting the ball so far this season. Daniels has only attempted throws with a depth of target further than 10 yards on 25% of his drop backs this year compared to 36% of his drop backs last year. It may actually be a coaching decision rather than his unwillingness to air it out.

The coaches have been begging him to throw it up to his playmakers. He really seems to be a team player and hard worker, but he’s scared to let it fly (or doesn’t see them) if the receiver isn’t wide open.

Joe is a coach on the field and a gamer, if Jayden can develop half as much as him we will have a very good QB

Daniels’s second year starting at Arizona State

10 touchdowns
10 interceptions
2,380 yards passing

Burrow’s second year starting at LSU

60 touchdowns
6 interceptions
5,671 yards passing

Yes, great comparison by the OP

When Joe Burrow came here, he was not a starter before that.

I am shocked...but it also shows the reason why many qbs don't throw over the middle... 7 of his 10 interceptions were over the middle and 8 of his 10 tds lol

this isn't to say they are the same QB, just to point out that you can't judge who a QB is always going to be from 5 games

This isn’t Daniels first five games as a starter. This is his 4th year as a starter.

Daniels had 29 games as a starter at a power 5 school before he started at LSU.
Burrow had 0 games as a starter anywhere before LSU.

You are comparing apples to walnuts.

Entire thread is dumb.

If his first 40 starts served to develop bad habits then in that context they are more of a liability than a benefit.
His freshmen season he did sling it around a lot more, had 17 touchdowns to only 2 picks with a healthy completion percentage.
He has it in him to improve upon that, he just wasn't given the tools to improve and develop at that shitshow that was ASU.
He is playing with too much of a risk averse mentality, and needs to get back to doing the things that made him so successful as a true freshman.
Luckily I believe we have the staff that can tap into his full potential and hopefully we start seeing the some of those things come to fruition this Saturday.

Herm Edwards is an awful coach. Look at Emery Jones (QB) numbers when he transferred from Florida to Arizona state this year.

I'm sure he received the same quality of coaching at ASU where assistants were giving the opposing team the gameplan as he will at LSU.

There are many more QBs who look mediocre their first few games and actually turn out to be… mediocre than there are QBs who look mediocre and turn out to be Joe Burrow.

He is a 21 year old Junior just like Burrow was his first 5 games so IDK why this matters.

Joe had very limited snaps at Ohio State.

JD was a 3-year starter at Arizona State.

Even Joe Biden can understand that.
