It is tough for anyone to compare to RP's physical skills. We never really got a feel for his football intelligence, but according to most sources that is a huge strength for Gunner. I'll take a smart qb who makes great decisions over a physically talented qb who doesn't. I'm hoping Gunner can be both.

But you have to understand that qb's reading defenses in highschool is a total joke. Defenses are not complex in highschool. A good passing offense will run circles around most highschool defenses more b/c of scheme than anything.

I agree with you, but I think the OP was asking about physical talent. Plus, I don't think RP's bad decision making off the field carried over to him making dumb decisions on the field. He didn't really make a ton of mistakes as a qb.

Kiel is accurate as frick. Amazing footwork.
Also you can't discredited of the field issues with RP. Intangibles and character plays a big part in a college player

Well, he will also have much better coaching, better oline, Wr's, rbs.
He will also play against the fastest defense in cfl everyday

Kiel will become a great QB at LSU under the coaching staff that is now in place. More National Championships on the way.

I agree with your comment, but what these experts are saying is that he is extremely intelligent and may be as good (one day) in college/NFL to read defenses as well as Peyton does today!

Which is why I said we never really got a feel for his football intelligence.
My comment was more in reference to the fact that RP was lauded for physical abilities, whereas the highest praise for Gunner is typically his football intelligence.

Brains trumps arm strength every time.
Montana and Brees don't have Jamarcus arms but both ate NFL defenses like roast turkey.
Gunner's arm strength, accuracy, and footwork are outstanding, and he appears to be a smart kid. That's where it counts most on and off the field. Tween' the ears.

I would like to hear the opinions of others on the difference between these two garden tools coming out of the hardware store after being purchased by their new owners. UTILITY WISE ONLY PLEASE!! I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE OUT-OF-GARDEN CHARACTER ISSUES OF SAY, A GARDEN HOSE!!!! So, which one of these two TOOLS coming out of the store are the better TOOL when they were both displayed along their respective isles at Home Depot, or Lowes, or wherever?

I hope he lives up to the accolades. I can't imagine how good LSU can be with a qb that can read defenses and audible into plays that will hurt defenses. I don't think we have had that ability since Hodson.

Kiel is very accurate, appears to be making reads all over the field in his videos.
But, where is he making these reads all over the field in his videos? I've watched his 7 min video a few times. Easily 9 out of 10 TD plays were to the primary/first look receiver. The only time he did not throw to the primary receiver was because the pocket collapsed and he had to scramble.
Kid is definitely appears to be a star. But, he has a lot of work to do to get ready for SEC defenses. Everyone needs to be patient with this guy. By all accounts he has the skills and brains to lead LSU to more championship games. I just don't see "reads all over the field" in his current video.
