Are you saying that there is not a decent chance that we have a large lead (5+) after 5 or 6 innings?

Alot, considering he hasn't proven that he can go over 5 innings.
Wouldn't that hold true against ULL on Sun as well?

I would say there is a decent chance that the game will still be in some doubt by the time Newman starts to fatigue.

Nola goes on Saturday, obviously.

We would have an overwhelming bullpen advantage, even moreso than if both teams are rested. If we get to the final 2-0, it's over

You missed my point. I wasn't guaranteeing otherwise. I'm saying that there is a significant chance to preserve your bullpen even if you throw Newman.
To look at it another way, if we are up 8-1 in the 5th with Eades, we will have effectively burned Eades for absolutely nothing.

Your approach only makes sense if you think our chances of losing to Jackson St. with Newman is greater than our chances of losing 2 games with Newman / Bonvillain.
I think there is 0% chance ULL (or anyone) comes out of the losers bracket, plays an extra game, and then beats us twice on Sunday/Monday in the Box, regardless of who we have on the mound.
Thus, because of that belief, I don't take any chances Game1.
All that said, it ain't gonna matter. LSU is goin 3-0 and movin on, hopefully with Glenn back next weekend.

It does but that's after they've gone through two days of pitching. LSU pitching depth comes into play at this point. The deeper you go the more likely you'll come out on top. All of that goes out the window of you slip up and happen to lose game 1.

No, he would have won us a game and saved the bullpen for the driver seat game.

But why risk that?

It's about burning their depth. Why match our front line pitching verses their weaker arms?

We are going to have a pretty huge bullpen advantage anyway. And, I doubt the Jackson St. game makes that much of a difference in that regard.

More than likely. But, it's more likely that you are wrong than it is that Jackson St. beats us tomorrow (without Eades).

Yeah but Sunday gives you the benefit of knowing "whatever pitching concerns we've got, that team over there...their pitching concerns are worse."
No different than Your typical Sunday game, but even better because none of these teams have the quality pitching depth we do

Like I said, that last two Regional game 1's Mainieri has played at the Box, LSU was either losing or tied with the 4 seed in the 6th inning.

Well that's a stupid and baseless assumption.
To put it simply, you're wrong.

Spill it dude. Before I go to bed.

Because it is less risky than the alternative...pitching two guys who aren't proven against a team that has been hot offensively.
