He certainly hasn't hit the mark from a batting average standpoint.
Is that what this boils down to in your opinion? Are you saying we really don't have leadership issues?

You seem to be conflating the issue of a coach naming the leader with the leader not being a good leader.
I'll be honest with you--I don't know what "conflating" means. I already told you that I don't think he's a good leader. Matters were made worse because Coach shoved him down the team's throat as the leader.

I don't know why he is the only regular to start in that game. Stevenson has had a far superior year, yet he was on the bench. Why does Bregman not get the "day off"? For the record, I asked that question in the game thread that night.
And yes, Bryan Lazare has protected Bregman all year with his scoring.

And the people saying Mainieri forced it on him are stupid.
?? No name calling.
He forced it on the team, not on Bregman.

I'm not disagreeing with you about Bregman as a leader. I really don't know and I'm using your opinion as the basis for my statements. Obviously, you are closer to the program than I am.
What I'm saying is that if Bregman was a good leader, coach choosing it wouldn't be an issue. And, if you can't even name a reasonable alternative to Bregman (I can't) then I'm having a hard time blaming that one on Mainieri.
In other words, it just seems like you are trying to blame Mainieri for a negative situation that, in hindsight, really was going to be negative one way or another.

Bregman has been nothing short of a garbage can this year compared to what he was last year. Constantly booting balls and either fouling out or getting owned in 3 pitches at the plate

Lazare wouldn't protect any LSU player. In fact, it would probably be the other way around.

quote:That depends on your definition of "well."
So you think all is well with the team and the coaches?
Players, for whatever reason, who were expected to perform well this year haven't. Everyone is comparing this season's results to last season which is unrealistic.
Last season was a record year.
We won more SEC games last year (since the 30 game SEC schedule was implemented) than almost any other SEC team in history. Unfortunately Vandy won more than we did, mainly because they didn't have to play us. When we did play Vandy in the SEC tournament, we beat them.
We went to Omaha still having only a single digit number of losses. That is incredible after going through a 30 game SEC schedule, the SEC tourney, a regional and a super regional facing the first college pitcher taken in the draft, and we beat him.
But just because this year is down compared to last year and some players are struggling compared to last year, those factors increase tension on any team.
But, no, I don't think the team is falling apart from within. The Drama Queens on this board are never happy unless they can put down players and coaches even if it requires starting rumors to do it.
It's sickening.

I would think it would be reasonable to think that Stevenson being left out had nothing to do with Mainieri thinking he was unworthy.
My guess is that Mainieri probably thought that Bregman would easily get 3 or 4 hits against Alcorn and was hoping that would propel him to getting on a little bit of a roll.
Maybe I'm just naive.

I'm actually surprised it's taken this far into the season for a thread like this to start. Whenever a season doesn't go like everyone thought, it has to be because of problems in the locker room, players don't like the coaches, etc. I'm not saying everything is all wonderful, but it's not about to fall apart at the seams either.

So Fraley didn't need at bats? He had only started for about two weeks at the time. What about Laird? Maybe Kramer Robertson could raise the average? No? None of those guys get to feast on SWAC pitching, only Bregman?
Posted on 5/12/14 at 11:09 pm to moneyg
Why would anyone think Bregman could get 3 or 4 hits against anyone this year?

I have not see Bregman "boot" a ball this year and it was ruled a hit.

I will sy some of what Mainieri said about Glenn was tasteless, but, that's Mainieri. HE does throw his players under the bus time to time.

Well, they did from the seventh on if that counts.

I'm sorry, you are lying. It has happened many times.

You obviously weren't watching game 1 against Alabama very closely then.
