Taken as a whole, it was abundantly obvious the program was headed for the dumps. Just look at how bad Mainieri's first team was
Beyond that, Smoke wouldn't have been able to coach in the post roster change world. His system didn't allow for it. shite, he could hardly get people here when you could do scholarships however you wanted and could have 40 or 45 guys on the roster.

Smoke was fired because he missed the postseason. That was an unthinkable crime for an LSU baseball coach at one point.

Bring in CC coach to LSU. Has just as many NC as current head coach. Love the way he coaches and his players play for him. Not afraid to let pitcher go deep in games with pitch counts.

He wasn't fired for just that particular season although that certainly sealed the deal.

Goes to show a program can still win with a limited # of arms if they pitch well. I mean CCU can hit HR, they have gap power, good speed on the bases, can play small ball, play good D, what coach doesn't wish for those attributes? Deserving champ although plenty of LSU fans will say LSU is more talented. Starting 7 guys who are upperclassmen and talented outweighs recruiting rankings every season.

Congrats to them, I liked their style.

Skip would say first year CWS teams struggle but Coastal wasn't affected. They didn't play scared. They walked in green and took it like nobodies business.

Kudos to CCU as they deserved to win it all. Have to admit I was pulling for them after beating us twice. Stolen bases for them was a given, clutch hitting and capable duration pitching added to everyone's misery.
NCAA coverage just trying to get interactive brackets or results on the series was and is, pitiful. Are they lacking funds or just don't care?

While I am a tiger through and through, I am happy for this team. I thought they showed a lot of respect while playing at LSU. Many of their players spoke fondly and we're in awe of playing at our house. They play the game the right way, all is earned and expect nothing to be given. That is a reflection of sound coaching and respectful kids. Happy for them but our tigers will be back before they will. GEAUX TIGERS!

So we get 2nd place right?
Ninth, as Mike Tyson would say.

But TRant wrote that they have no pitching.
No pitching and go 0-2.
What gives?
All these fat asses with nothing to all day except get whiter got this wrong?
No fricking way.

Does it sadden anyone that Coastal Carolina went on to win, thinking what could have been for LSU. Leading CCU until the 6th in the 1st game and losing game two on a walk off when we really should've taken the lead in the 9th and left so many runners stranded. Could've been our year had we just handed Coastal.

That's history. I moved on.

Good for them.
Will be interesting to see what small school comes to the Box next year and beats LSU.
Houston, Stoney Brook, CC....
Next?

And Mainieri will continue to recruit guys who will never show up here. He needs to change his recruiting ways. It obviously ain't working.

Yeah, that's me, a big gaping pussy. That's great that they beat us, but I'm not going to actively cheer and go nuts on our message board for another program.
The pumpers argue that the Negas are only happy when LSU loses, but it is lame to argue that CC winning somehow validates Paul. The same way we're supposed to feel good when Alabama beats us because they're the national champions. Therefore, Les Miles really isn't a bad coach because nobody else beat them either.
