Has there been any talk about putting up statues of Dietzel & McC at Tiger Stadium w/room for Saban, Miles & O (if/when he wins the Title) down the line?
I understand the issues w/Saban & Miles & I understand they have to wait, but they did win the title. Maybe we could just put up the podiums for those two now & the statues later......;)

Not sure Saban will ever have a statue honestly. Les and O are true LSU guys. Saban is a mercenary.

And Charlie Mac never won a title. Are we giving out participation statues?

I could see it happening, but most likely after he retires and is done with coaching. It would be weird to have a statue of him here while he's coaching at another school that we play every year.

He started LSU on the path to being a powerhouse program after years of mediocrity. We are still reaping the benefits from what he did starting almost 20 years ago.

Well, there should be a statue of Mac, but I say put it at the practice facility.

Hopefully the statues of Shaq and Cannon will change the LSU tradition of waiting until someone dies to honor them. They should start working on the statue of Burrow right now and get it in place before next season starts.

If he ever did, I could see it becoming tradition for fans to throw bird feed at its base. I could see it looking something like this:

Need to be careful about this one. We'll end up having many statues with all the LSU heismans to come in the following years ;)

This may be true, but some are a lot more 'mercenary' than others.....and Nick Saban leads that group.

Okay, "Tiger" - let me Jeopardy you on this:

6, 3, 6, 0, 7, 7, 0, 18, 6, 0 and 0?

Times up. "What are the points Mac's defense gave up in the undefeated, National Champion 1958 season?"

That's less than 5 points per game. And I know more about defensive football than Dietzel did. Dietz's offensive juggernaut came up with 13 points against Bama, 10 against Florida, 7 against MSU, and 7 against Clemson (Sugar). So where would we have been without Mac's smothering defense? (Hint: Probably 7-4).

But just frick Mac, right?

Coach Mac did not win a NC, In 17 years he won 1 SEC title. If one is put up for NS I hope it is shape like a small prick.

Don't forgot about the 1908 championship team

Anyone know why we don't claim it?

Maybe they can build a wing for mediocre coaches and guys that left the program on Christmas day.

The statues definitely need to be for those most deserving.
Otherwise you are going to end up with too many.

Basketball already has a couple. No past coaches deserve one but Wade will get one after a national title.
Football has Cannon and will add Burrow one day as a Heisman winner. You would think they would add a coach at some point. I don't think Saban stayed long enough to warrant one.
Baseball just got Bertman and probably have several deserving ones to come at some point and has to include a player at some point.
My guess is Gunter could eventually get one along with Augustus.
DD Breaux will likely get one as well one day along with a gymnast at some point.

You mean "wasn't" and certainly I do.

You realize Mac WAS the defensive coordinator in 1958.

You folks also realize we didn't fire Dietzel to hire Mac, right? Dietzel quit on us for his "dream" job which he stuck it out for 4 seasons before returning to the South at a different school.

He didn't come back to LSU until it was time to fire Mac and no one else had the balls to do it.

Paul Dietzel was the coach in ‘58. Mac was an assistant and took over when Dietzel left in 1962.
