Coach You: You match Cincy's guarantee, or just promise to compete?

Ok, it takes no balls and no smarts/wisdom to sit back and bitch. But, what if you had to make the call as the HC.
Meanwhile, Coach O has "gone for it" with all he has. He wants to win more than you do, and he wants to keep his dream job as well.
Option 1) Do not bring Burrow in, for fear that the 3 current QB's feel dissed (even though they have failed to separate themselves as the leader), risking the risk of transfer or disenfranchisement? This option is dead, but are you saying that "Coach You" wouls not have brought him in for any try at all?
Option 2) Bring him in and roll out the carpet, but "stop short" of giving Burrow and his family a 100% guarantee, but that he would be the likely starter? Note: Keep in mind what you would be telling the Dad's/family and the 3 current QB's you have a relationship with, and don't just bitch and play pollyanna.
Option 3) Bring him in, roll the red carpet, and promise him the starting job, knowing you will have to give a personal face-to-face to existing QB's and their Dad's/families.
Before you answer, factor in everything, including potential impact on recruits.
Ok, geaux...

Option 2 is the only reasonable one
Posted on 5/14/18 at 5:36 pm to THECEO
Option 4, fire Alleva and hire new HC that can develop a QB.

Option 4 : assume he’s gone and be surprised if he signs.

You promise him everything, even if it's not necessarily true. At this point wgaf about the other 3. It's about winning

Option 5
Get rid of shithead posters who have to hijack every thread to whine about O and Alleva.

My approach would have been this, plus red carpet etc. etc. yada yada.
"You are guaranteed first team reps at the start of fall camp, and by extension penciled in as the presumptive starter. The guys I have now have not earned the presumption because they have not showed me they have taken the step to be a championship caliber quarterback. There is a chance they beat you out, but you have the first shot at keeping the position. The best guy will play."

If you do this you severely damage future recruiting efforts.

simple question, what would nick saban have done?
Posted on 5/14/18 at 5:51 pm to THECEO
Raising a generation of pussies, I guess every kid should transfer if not promised a starting position.

Saban don't have to worry about this because he wins championships. Kids are willing to sit the bench and wait their turn because theyy are still part of championship teams.

I guess you haven’t seen all of the QBs and OL that have left the program in the last 1-2 years. There’s a couple of them looking for a school right now.

Saban has more qbs leave than anybody in the country.
Posted on 5/14/18 at 5:59 pm to burke985
my point exactly, saban takes an alpha proactive position to every recruit "come here, work hard, learn, rise up to the challenge and you could play, no promises"

You also use back channels (the DB coach who was the connection) to assure Burrows that the reason the competition is "open" to all, including a guy not yet on campus, is because the guys who are here aren't ready to play.
If you absolutely have to, go ahead and let Burrow's family understand the job was Brennan's to lose, and he did just that this spring and hasn't reclaimed it. But you don't voice it in that way unless they are ready to sign, and want clarity about his chances. "I'm not gonna lie to ya, I wanted one of the freshmen to seize the job. And if one had, I don't think we're talking today. But the truth is, neither are ready this year.
We open against Miami, and I think we can win that just with our defense. I think we can win a lot, just with our defense. I could sit on my hands and nap on Saturdays and we'd win 8-9 games.
I think that with you, we go from a team that could win every game, to a team that should win every game. That's the opportunity that we have today. Are you ready to make it happen?"

Also the mere fact that they are hosting a transfer qb shows the confidence they have in thhe 3 we have. If they are not sure about the guys we have than better pray Burrow comes here and battles for the position

How do you guarantee a starting spot to a transfer QB who hasn’t played any meaningful snaps in college? You tell him he will start if he proves his worth.

When did JBE start posting on the rant
