I totally agree with this, people are getting caught up in the 4-3 and 3-4 and neither are rarely played in it's true form personnel wise nowadays because of mismatches against the spreads.

Bro WHAT... Isaiah Simmons is 6'4 23.... Marcel Brooks is 6'2 194... you CANNOT play 4-3 end at that size.
Isiah simmons doesn't play end dumbass and he barely lines up there. He lines up at OLB / slot corner/safety
Brooks will be 220+ by next season

Most 3-4 outside rushers ONLY rush the passer. will sometimes make a play on the ball carrier. but that's not what there are there for. Von Miller is there to attack the QB.. not tackle ball carriers for a 3 yard gain
Eating up blocks in a 3-4 is only in 2-gap scheme which Aranda liked to run. Most teams now run a 3-4 1 gap scheme were the DL attack more with lighter more athletic DL
DL especially end are also becoming lighter and more athletic in 4-3 defenses
So Chaisson and Key didn't play the run? Bama's OLB sure do tackle the ball carrier a lot

I expect 4-2-5 as the staple.

Given LSU's DL depth next year vs LB depth, it makes sense to get 4 DL on the field. That and the Secondary are going to be the strength of the Defense.

In 3rd and long passing downs just like this year Marcel can absolutely line up at end.

you can't play 4-3 at either of their size so wtf are you talking about?

He is able to rush the passer in a 3-4 because you have 3 big guys eating blocks and stuffing the run.
oh
wow
yeah ok cool

some of you need to google 4-3 and 3-4 defenses before we start talking about them seriously.

BAMA runs a 3-4 jackass. Sure they can tackle the ball carrier... BECAUSE THE 3 GUYS INSIDE ARE EATING UP BLOCKS. But their main goal is to rush the passer. how fricking stupid are you?
And I know Simmons didn't play edge you dunce. We are talking about Marcel Brooks though...

I think Brooks is role gets confused from last year
It’s best described as this
Just pretend he really was a safety. Now, on 3rd & long, there he is, standing up on the end of the line. He was a blitzing safety.
They did everything they could for him to avoid OT contact. He either A) ran around the end or B) ran a stunt in attempt to get to QBs untouched
He was a safety that they used to blitz

Have you watched Bama this past 5 years?
They play a 1 gap scheme where the DL don't just eat up blocks. You think Q. Williams was sitting there eating up blocks?

aranda is the best..never really seen alot of blown assignments or guys out of place in his defense.
What?
This defense was really solid all year EXCEPT for the big blown assignments and guys in the wrong gap.

but I can't say I am as much a fan of his schemes.
He was damn near 3rd and Chavis at times.
If a team had 3rd and 14 or 4th and 14, it worried me more than if it was 3rd or 4th and 3.
He gave up a lot of long plays on 3rd and 4th downs to the opposition.

Clemson went 1-11 on 3rd down in the national title game
LSU was top in the SEC and had the fifth best opponent conversion percentage in the country in 2019

Seems to be coach talk to me. Giving others' things to think about.
I cant see LSu going to a straight 4-3 next year, which will really be a 4 2 5, the majority of the time.
I like the Pelini hire and I like the attacking defensive approach. Either way, 3-4 or 4-3, Pelini will have a ton of talent to work with and the Tiger D should be as dangerous as ever.

just to change it now. Say goodbye to players like Marcel Brooks and Divinity rushing the passer. They are far too small to rush the passer in a 4-3.

What’s wrong with a 4-4 defense?
Posted on 2/5/20 at 4:57 pm to Lark225
I take it that you didn’t watch the Ole Miss game this past season because there were players out of position several times.
