You better have somebody shifty back there who can make pass rushers miss in the backfield. CEH is built perfectly for that. Bottom line, it’s scheme.
For the millionth time, our scheme highlights his WORST attribute and biggest weakness. While shifty, he lacks both an elite first step burst to the hole and straight line speed. We are now asking him to be effective setting up shop 3 yards behind the LOS and then often pause before getting a handoff on reads.
He is suited to a lot of things, but his strengths don’t help him here. If you wiggle in the backfield in the SEC, you are going to average less than 3 yards per carry in this offense.

hopefully TDP (or Emery but that seems like a longshot now) emerges as the primary guy and CEH slides into his natural role as relief/3DB

that's crazy because Alabama has been doing that for 4-5 years now
Bama is more run-oriented, even with Tua, than we are currently. And we have been doing it for 3 games. We are basically running an air-raid.
Since Tua Bama hasn’t been able to control the game by running the football like they used to. It cost them with against an aggressive defensive coordinator last year and I believe it will this year despite their talent discrepancy. They seem confused with their identity, we currently aren’t at all.

Price-Davis is the truth
Beat me to it. He was probably my favorite player recruited this year besides Stingley mainly because of his mentality. He never got scared to have another dominant type running back commit in this class and he focused on himself. His role has increased each week.
I don't like saying favorite because I like all the guys who chose to be tigers, but this kid has underestimated. Clyde has shown why he deserved to start this season as well.

this shif was well before Tua
remember 2014 when Blake Sims had a better year than 2013 Mett? that was a very sore subject on here at the time

It doesn’t matter who you have back there if there are very few holes to run through. That’s the point. We need to change our expectations of what our running game is in this offense. It has more to do with what we’re asking the offensive line to do than who’s at running back.
For this offense, you better have a sure thing as a pass-blocker, and someone who can make rushers miss in the backfield.
I do hope the other young guys will develop as the year progresses, but CEH is sufficient considering the lack of holes opening up thus far.

Elite teams will close in on him fast.

Totally different offenses. Apples to oranges. And compared to us this year it’s apples to oranges to avocados.
With Tua, frankly Bama seems confused with who they are. Sure, it doesn’t matter 90% of the time, but they have a bit of an identity crisis. We currently do not, which is crazy to me. We get it done through the air while paying occasional lip service to the run.
For the first time ever I don’t think we give a shite how many rushing yards we have.

I like CEH. He understands the offense and the protections. He is a good runner and pass catcher.

People hate on Clyde for the same reason they overlooked Jefferson for so long. Not a highly ranked recruit. Star gazers love to say “our entire offense is made up of 4/5 stars”.

He’s just fine in this offense. We are going to need to develop a bit more of a complimentary power run to close out games later in the year though.

Alabama’s leading rusher, naturally a 5* recruit, had 36 yards against the Cocks yesterday.

Ty Davis will be starting by the Bama game

I really like Clyde but Price is the future. Kid can BALL. If Clyde can block the blitz better he is a huge need in this O.
Btw, Emery will come around, needs to get stronger. This offense really does not fit him if he is not going to be used in passing game honestly. Needs to have some zone read plays.

Do not hate him but he is not the best rb on the team. He has played well, but just not a difference maker.

He is fine, but if LSU is to win anything, one or both of the freshmen will have to step up and split carries with him. Bottom line.
You just don’t get it. We didn’t win anything with Fournette and Guice and a run first offense that either wasted or didn’t require the talent of 4 offensive players (QB, TE and 2 WR) on most plays. This is passing offense that utilizes the talent of every single player and the most important attribute of the RB in that offense will be pass protection. As talented as ball carriers as those freshman are, their playing time will be limited until their ability to pass pass protect isn’t a liability in this particular offense.
