All I have heard this week from State fans is how close they played LSU last season...and how Fitzgerald is going to build off of this success, and finish the deal this year.

I vaguely remembered another QB coming in to spell Fitzgerald, but I couldn't recall the circumstances.

After going back and watching this game...I have a few thoughts.

Danny Etling had some decent throws in this game and played pretty well...better than his stats.

The O-Line was a mash unit. At one point in the 4th quarter we had Pocic at LT, Clapp at LG, Dodd at C, Brumfield at RG, and Tehuma at RT.

The starting O-Line was Malone, Clapp, Pocic, Boutte, Weathersby.

Two big things contributed to this game being close.

Fournette fumbled on a 4th and 3 that we recovered, but ended up being Bulldogs ball because it went forward at the 30.

Fitzgerald lost his helmet and had to come out of the game...Damian Williams comes in and scores 7 plays later. Williams ends up going 5/8 for 94 yards, and runs in another score.

So the big question I have for State fans....

Is Damian Williams playing on Saturday?

Beat down coming. The trap game in Tuscaloosa may have us only winning by 2 TDs.

Close game with Mississippi State by LSUby6

2014: Miss State 34 LSU 29
2015: LSU 23 Miss State 21
2016: LSU 23 Miss State 20

Why is it outrageous for anyone to pick a close game? We haven't exactly played the 2001 Miami team or '72 Southern Cal team.

Because man, we are LSU by god!!! Teams should fear us and because we are LSU!!!!! Rah rah.
LOL

I'm still baffled as well by how many people think because it's state we are expected to blow them out.

Since 1998, LSU is 17-2 against MSU

LSU has outscored MSU 678-283 in that timeframe

The 2 losses were by 1 pt and 5 pt (1999 & 2014)

The average margin of victory is about 20 pt

Since 2010 the average margin of victory is about 12 pt

The largest MOV was 51 pt in 2004 when LSU won 51-0

The smallest MOV was 2 pt in 2015 when LSU won 21-19

Average final score 35-15

Why does it matter what we've done the past 20 years? Different players and coaches THIS year.

I just don't understand why it's causing people issues that someone might think it could possibly be a close game.
Cheers.

I have no opinion one way or the other. I just see a lot of people saying it's always close. I looked it up for myself.

Unlike others, I could see this as a 10-6 type game.

The score this weekend will mirror that of the 2003-2007 era.

I was there for the 2007 game 45-0. It was a laugher. I think we intercepted that poor Moo St QB 4 times.

OK, based on what? Why is everybody praising their defense?

It's a potential trap game - on the road, early in the season, SEC opponent, tough defense. We'll win but we can't take them lightly.

With props to you for providing the base information, let me expand on the data a little further by LSU and MSU coach.

Last time Moo beat LSU a kid named Prescott was the QB. You may have heard of him.
