well considering LSU will be a smoldering crater by the time the next guy comes in, the expectations will be even lower than they are now.

If A&M can pull a coach to College Station where winning a title is a myth...than We will be ok.

Winning 7-9 games a year and never actually competing for titles isn't "fun". You don't fire a coach like Les Miles just to let the next coach frick up the program. That's how you become Tennessee.

Yes sir. Think about how fast programs like Tennessee, Florida, Michigan and even Alabama (before Saban obbiously) crashed and burned. It takes literally a couple of years to become close to irrelevant.

I can guarantee you the BOS is NOT going to approve paying O off after a winning season in 2018. This an absolute fact and our opinions mean ZERO on this.

Our only hope is that Governor Edwards appoints real LSU people to the BOS starting this June.

O is not safe. You had multiple media sources talking about his buyout details 5 GAMES into his first season as head coach. His buyout goes down to 6 million after january 1, 2019.

Les Miles' (remember him?) buyout runs out December 2019. when december of this year rolls around les will be owed roughly 3 million.

that means between Miles and O, you owe $10,000,000. a lot yes, but not insurmountable, ESPECIALLY if this year does not go well for O.

In my heart of hearts, I think LSU will prob beat miami, auburn, UF, aTm, but will lose to UGA bama and prob one game they shouldn't and have a chance to get to 10 wins in the bowl. so this whole conversation is moot.

I mean.. not really. Just that I don't think LSU fires a coach in year 2 after being embarrassed by their last coaching search. Sub 6 wins, sure. But 6 wins and some horseshite bowl I think keeps him here for at least one more year.

you literally cannot guarantee this but for the fact that you have a quote from them stating this.

it amazes me how people on this board do not know what the word "absolute" and "fact" mean.

I never said to hire a guy "just because" they have HC experience. Hell, O has HC coaching experience.

I said hire a guy that's a PROVEN WINNER as a head coach. Massive difference.

So LSU shouldn't have fired Miles?

This is ridiculously stupid. They have plenty of coaches with a lot better resumes than Orgeron that would crawl to Baton Rouge if offered the job

As far as the OP, I like Clay Travis but he has no inside info or knows anything about the LSU coaching search

Haha. I'm an idiot. I completely misunderstood your point. I thought you were saying that O was a safe choice and not that his job was safe.

I thought we was talking about Kiffen , but while we’re on the subject, I wasn’t a fan of the Orgeron hiring from the beginning!! But we all knew that was about saving money to pay Les’s contract out !!

I'd rather not let the state of the program get to the point where fans are so desperate they are okay with the AD giving the next coach a contract worth $75 million, guaranteed.

“ got a find a better choices than that”

I remember saying the same type thing when the last hire was made and we all know what happened then.

If the fan base knew the plan was:

1. Jimbo Fisher
2. Tom Herman
3. Edward Orgeron

I can guarantee there would have been a lot less people calling for Miles to be fired. In September of 2016, the thought that Ed fricking Orgeron was 3rd on the list to be the head coach at LSU would have been laughed off of this board.

Yeah, it's been all of 1.5 seasons since they've done that.
O hasn't produced the upgrade promised and only deflects blame. I imagine another year of this real decline should trigger BOS.

why does a program like LSU, with everything it needs to be extremely successful, need to take a risk on an unproven young guy.

We've got everything we need (recruiting base, facilities, support, money, etc.) so just bring in a proven winner at HC and we're off to the races.
