Not that you’re surprised, but Clay Travis is on the radio in Nashville lobbying to get Joe Brady to Vanderbilt as the head coach. If Ensminger retires at the end of the season and Brady becomes offensive coordinator, they’re going to have to give him some Dave Aranda money to keep him from taking a head-coaching gig at a mid-level school.

Thanks for giving a plethora of thumbs down when all I did was report what I heard myself. If you guys don’t think someone would give him a head-coaching gig, you haven’t been paying attention. Whether it’s pro or college, everyone is looking for the next Sean McVay or Kyle Shanahan. Don’t think for second that a program wouldn’t get desperate enough to give him full reign.

That’s so idiotic. Yeah let’s throw a guy who just turned 30 into an SEC head coaching job when he’s never even been a coordinator before. Clay is a certain kind of special.

This isn't a big deal as much as the guy is in his 5th year coaching football at any level. That would be such an insane gamble to make him a HC at an SEC school.

Not surprised and a big failure to pimp him to a spot he would fail.

1. He is great but hasn’t done it over a period of years. Can he sustain it?
2. How is he at recruiting?
3. Development with young raw players?

I think brady is smart enough to realize that he can put 3/4 years of success here and land a much better spot than Vandy. He will be named OC after the season. Suck it Clay

Joe Brady would be an idiot to go to Vandy. He could be the best offensive mind of the century and still not win.

His career would be extremely hindered to take a HC job right now.

And btw, Clay Travis is retarded to do think they would offer him a SEC HC job. But again, Vandy is a destination job for no one, and the next head coach will be another kinda meh guy that may get 6-7 wins a few times..but eventually it will implode.

Vandy is not the place to start your career as a HC

Coaches are getting younger and younger these days. It seems like this is the new trend in the NCAA and NFL. I wouldn't be surprised if some struggling team tried to throw money at him.

He is going to be 30 next year

Giving him a program would be insane.

This is his resume:

2013–2014 - William & Mary (LB)
2015–2016 - Penn State (GA)
2017–2018 - New Orleans Saints (OA)
2019–present - LSU (PGC/WR)

He is 30 years old with absolutely no experience to warrant any head coaching job at the D1 level, much less in a P5 conference.

Now, if he becomes OC full time, shows he can recruit (which he's never done), and succeeds with a QB other than Joe Burrow...he'll get tons of offers.

ETA:

He actually turned 30 in September it appears.

Yeah his resume isn't that beefy, but he's taken a historically bad offensive team and made them to a Top 3 offense in less than a year.

Like I said, some desperate team could be willing to throw 2-3 million a year at him.

Clay Travis is the sports equivalent of thrillist

And isn't he a Tennessee fan? Why in the world is he worried about Vanderbilt

Well, I think you could argue that he IS the de facto OC right now. That said, in most cases I would agree with you, but we are talking Vandy here. They aren't going to get an established HC. They may have trouble getting a top tenured coordinator as well simply because those guys will likely have other options and may see Vandy as a dead-end job. They may choose to wait for a better job.

So if you are Vandy why not take a chance with a young guy who is though to be a great offensive mind? Unconventional? Yes. But it's not like Vandy could do much worse or that there are ridiculous expectations from a rabid fanbase. They would be hoping to recreate some of the success they had under Franklin.

Hell, three years ago LSU gave the job to a guy who had never been a coordinator and had no success at a HC in his only shot. It seems to be working out for LSU thus far.

Being a head coach of an SEC program is WAYYYYYY different than being a first year 30 year old coordinator. Brady would be foolish not to hone his skills with LSU, he wwas given the opportuinity of a lifetime and could easily screw it up by jumping too soon.

If he continues his success he’s about 3-4 years from being either an nfl OC or CFB head coach

Let’s say Brady leaves ... how much has Ensminger learned? Could he run this offense without Brady after being in it for a year?
