If i were any school id be very wary of hiring Brady as HC right now. This "genius" narrative being thrown around about him is premature imo. What has he done really? Is his offensive mind that much greater than other "geniuses" out there right now? Look at Malzhan. He was the genius but his success has always been dependent on good to great qb play. Whats to say Burrow isnt the reason for the offense clicking so well? (Honestly imo he is the reason) Lets see how Brady stacks up the next year or 2 without Burrow.

Don't worry SE knows what Brady is doing now. Let's see if Brady can do as well with another QB before going overboard.

100% THIS!

Being a head coach is way more than philosophy of offense. He needs to learn behind a HC. Thats how HC fail early in their careers.

ETA: Some learn from Failing tho. Coach O did.

No way.

I mean no doubt he knows some plays. But calling plays is so layered.

I remember when LSU was looking to hire a new coach. There was this extremely successful coach at Southern Miss whose offense was setting records after developing a solid quarterback. LSU was seduced and offered him the farm.

That coach was Curly Hallman(and Brett Farve was his quarterback)..................

I do think Joe Brady is a rising star. But how much of the hype and success is the result of having a 5th year Senior Quarterback with excellent accuracy and a stable of NFL receivers.

Taking a job at Vanderbilt who has none of our talent would be a career killer.

I think it’s less about play calling and more understanding concepts and being able to teach them. That’s more of what I’m unsure about.

I think play calling becomes the easy part once you understand concepts.

Like most throwing it out there and hoping it sticks. That way he can say he was the first. Guys like him are the worst.

Even if Vandy was insane enough to offer him the head coaching job, they would be setting him up to fail. He'd be better off becoming the OC at LSU, proving himself by developing a QB other than Burrow, and getting a better job down the road.

Clay Travis is an insufferable douche.

And his shtick is so obviously fake I don’t know how anyone can stand it.

The offense can't just stay the same. Brady is innovative and the offense will steadily evolve with him being associated. Ensminger is stale and will never be a great coordinator on his own. His offenses have always lacked creativity and is the reason that none of them have been very successful. You can't just learn it and be good from then on. If that was the case, more offenses would be tremendous. Constantly changing, growing, and creativity is what separates great offenses from other offenses and great defenses.

I agree, but he will be a hot commodity. LSU needs to be ready to do what's needed to keep him.

He could be the best offensive mind of the century and still not win.
Well I wouldn't say that. Franklin made Vandy relevant. In his 2nd and 3rd year they went 9-4. They hadn't won 9 games since 1915! He then went to Penn St and put them back in contention for the conference after sanctions. I'm not saying that's something Brady would do, but I'm saying that Vandy isn't an impossible place to win at.

His career would be extremely hindered to take a HC job right now.

Yeah and moreso because of experience not age. Lincoln Riley was 33 when he became the HC at Oklahoma, but that was after 7 years as an OC (two at OU), and 3 years as a position coach.

Let's say Brady was a GA at 22, just a position coach from 23 and 24, OC at a small school at 25 and 26, and then spend 3 years as an OC at a power 5 school (27-29). That would give you a thirty year old with 7 years of experience with 5 of those years as an OC. Since you're young, I think it also depends on who you tutor under.

He has such an upward trajectory why would he blow his shot on a shitty mid-tier school and risk it failing because the underlying team sucked.

He'll serve as an OC (hopefully here) for a few years and then take his shot as an HC at a mid major program whose coach left for a prime power five job and is still on solid footing. Build from there and leapfrog to something more prestigious. He also needs to hone his recruiting chops, he has very little experience.

This. Burrow is great at reading defenses, tough as nails, & deadly accurate. If Brady can transform Brennan then I’ll be a believer.
