are you talking about Rhymes? The guy that led the NCAA in hitting last year and has a .400+ OBP.

He puts the bunt on the first 2 pitches. Once the count gets to 2-0 you know UCLA doesn't want to go 3-0 and risk walking Katz into scoring position. You figure (and got) a cock shot and one of your best hitters missed it. Plain and simple. And you don't start Katz bc if he gets thrown out then your really dead.

Easy to make a judgement when you know the outcome. Hindsight is 20-20 of course. Didn't have an issue with the call.

I'm ok with it.

Rhymes is a .340+ hitter and he's certainly capable of handling the situation. Why would you remove his opportunity to see the best pitch he's likely to see?

Rhymes should have been selective, and should have only swung at a pitch that he could drive. I think reasonable criticism can be leveled at Rhymes for weakly grounding out on a pitch that had to be perfect.

Take the pitch, if you decide to take the bunt off, hit and run at 2-1. The pitcher was way wide on the first two pitches. Give him a chance to be rattled.

Are you serious you don't take a chance like that late in the game. A man on second is almost guaranteed a run especially in that field. We haven't hit the ball all night with any consistency bc of plate discipline. So as a coach you restrict freedom right there period.

All this old school pussy arse move the runner bullshite.

Read some Bill James and get yourself educated.

Throwing away outs is NEVER a good move. The bunt is a stupid play and the statistics prove it.

I don't care how many DPs he hit into, the guy is a GREAT single hitter and knows how to handle that at bat. Personally, I'd have rather seen him take a pitch, but he made a different decision and sometimes things don't break your way in this game.

But to hell with a bunt, and flushing one of your precious outs down the crapper.

But in that situation, where you NEED one and only one run to continue the game, you bunt. Bunting actually nets you on average less runs, but more innings where you score at least 1 run...which is all we needed.

this is the guy who last week said he would sac bunt miguel cabrera (major league 2012 double play leader) in the fourth inning of the world series. so take all this with a grain of salt.

Runner on second would have scored on the base hit. Simple as that.
