You have to ask the question: If Chavis and Haley are so bad, why would a couch who is feeling some heat offer them?
....Maybe thay aren't as bad as we think.

Anyone else notice that Chavis isn't wearing a wedding band on his left hand in the Advocate picture?

Does he normally not? Is his wife gonna keep commuting to the BR condo from Knoxville? Does she have a business to run there? Are the two sons of college age, in Knoxville, UT students living on own, or at the Chavis home?

Glad the Chief is staying at LSU.

Again, Chavis even at $450k is getting too much, but it was realistic. Paying him 600-650k is fricking ridiculous for a defensive coordinator that will give you a top 10 defense once every 3 years and only if your offense is utter shite.

Think about Pelini, he had top 10 defenses EVERY freaking year at LSU.

Well if he brings the defense even further next year, I think we'll have made a good choice. I guess we'll see.

Unbelievable. The people in charge of football hiring at LSU have to be running the most bush league organization in all of college football. If we're paying that kind of money, at least find someone worth it. I miss you Mark Emmert.

Pretty sure Miles took a 300K pay cut, guys.

Because he's doing such a great job hiring head coaches at Univ. of Washington?

You can't be serious. Willingham sucked, but when the hire was made it appeared to be a good one. Willingham took ND to it's first bowl game in a few years and was more successful at ND than CW. Plus, he knew the Pac-10 and had had success there before. Sarkisian has completely turned the program around. They won 5 games this year (2 against ranked teams--Arizona and USC). They're one of the more up and coming programs in college football and I expect that they will challenge for the Pac-10 next year. Hell their coaching staff is better than ours.

If LSU didn't match and let Chavis go, there is no guarantee that abetter option would be willing to come.Richt has scoured the nation and offered to some of the best in the country and none wanted the job

Ding ding ding!!

It's not as if UGA is some scrub program. They are consistently top 20 and the UGA DC is a great job. I don't understand why everyone thinks we could throw a dart out the window and hit a better DC than Chavis. The guy is a proven DC. Period.

Our defense went to "average"?

The 12th ranked scoring defense in a field of 120 is hardly average. We had a pretty damn good defense this season if you ask me. Was it the best in LSU history? No. But it's his first year with an entirely new group of players AND coaches. I have confidence in The Chief

Where are you hearing he took a paycut? I've seen nothing to that content, and I have little Faith Les would do that.

I think this is a great move..for future hires. If Chavis retired anytime soon, we'll get a top notch DC because they know that we'll give them a raise...its kinda make the jobs attractive at LSU.
