Rothstein confirmed on Twitter LINK

I really don’t get this one. He was getting decent minutes on a tournament team and was arguably our best wing defender. Big loss.

Yeah we’ve beaten two average SEC teams. If the goal is to just win 12 sec games and make the tournament then it’s no big deal. If the goal is to make noise in the tournament then losing a solid, experienced player is a big loss.

Wade said in an interview I believe after Ole Miss something along the lines “amazing what happens when you get rid of a team cancer”

I sure did not expect Manning was a malcontent but I guess he was

Hate seeing this guy go... he was a good player who contributed and could have contributed good minutes to this team... good luck Charles Manning...

It seems he had a lot of friends on the team, but sometimes things are pretty simple: guy was getting less and less minutes, Gaines is coming on, he didn’t want to be the 9th guy and play 7 minutes a game.

Selfishly we want him to stay, be a spark, practice hard, etc etc. But these guys want to play. Really can’t blame him for leaving, I’m sure he was going through the motions and pretty checked out. I think it’s beneficial for both parties. Wish him nothing but the best.

Yeah, if you heard WW's comments you did not have to read between the lines too much. My perception was that it was mutual and/or maybe even not Manning's decision at all.

Rest of the story: Freshmen passed him on the depth chart.
Mwani Wilkinson and Gaines were more dependable.

It was mutual, the staff 100% believes they are better without him.

Hyatt probably felt the heat of Johnson and Manning getting processed and thought he was next, because he’s been playing well

Both Wade and Jordy pretty much said this was not voluntary. Sounds like he was kicked off the team or processed due to a negative attitude.

He's a senior (though he will have one more year of eligibility remaining). He wasn't starting and his minutes were going down each game. Gaines became someone Wade wanted to play more and that meant there was going to be less of Manning. He probably wanted to go somewhere where he can start. That looks like South Alabama.

Coming into the season he looked like a guy who was probably going to start at the 3 spot. But he had some injury issues in the preseason/beginning of the season which allowed Wilkinson to step in to a bigger role. One that Wilkinson, for this team, is performing really well. It does hurt your depth (particularly if an injury arises) but LSU has been just fine

Hyatt does a lot of little things well that don't get noticed. He's one of LSU's better defenders (on a team that needs them). He's a tough rebounder. I think the issue with him is that he was billed as a 3 point shooter coming into LSU but has looked awful in that role. Now that the expectation of him being a "sharpshooter" is gone he's starting to see he can really help this team in other ways.

He and Wilkinson aren't going to get the big point totals or attention. But BOTH make winning plays each game

You are right, he does a lot of little things well. Also he is kind of one of those guys that is a Jack of all trades but a master of none. He doesn’t do any one thing exceptionally well, but he is a solid all around player. He also plays tough in the paint offensively and defensively, especially for his size.
