Another Anthony "Freak" Johnson. Doesn't seem to fulfill the look and potential.

They have not been great against the run before last night. They've actually been gashed a lot this season in the run game the difference is LSU is up 28-3 on a team and they're forced to pass the ball skewing the defensive stats into looking like they're actually great against the run. Anyone with a viable running threat QB is going to put the film on last night and abuse LSU with counter plays. If that dude had any kind of throwing ability they might've actually had a historic comeback win because they were cheating up expecting runs every play and still couldn't stop it. If he didn't suck bad they could've easily PA straight over the middle for easy huge pass plays because the LBs were flying up every play.

I have not looked but I'll bet the average rushing attempt against LSU's defense is over 5 yards per carry on the season. I can think of several games where they did not look good against the run but the teams ended up abandoning it.

In some article i read this morning they referenced LSU's "defensive stars" which was mostly a solid list but I rolled my eyes when I seen Chaisson's name on it.

Our DE are all over weight. Logan has noticeably ballooned from last year. The weight he lost prior to last season really helped his performance. He is now back to his sophomore performance.

Lawrence is listed as 308 lbs. How many DE in the NFL are that big? That is NG size. Ferrell is a good player in bursts, but he is not in great shape. Big belly like an OG. Feihoko is who he is. Looks to be in good shape, but just hasn’t developed in five years of college ball

There are reasons why we can’t get a pass rush with 4 guys. Our DL is filled with a bunch of NG rather than DE’s. There isn’t a single quick twitch guy who is 6’6” 270lbs. Zero. There is a reason why they want Ali Gaye. He fits that description. The JC guy they signed this year but is having to redshirt is another option for next year who isn’t 20-40 lbs too big.

They have been recruiting to play 2013 Bama, Auburn and Arkansas and not 2019 top tier offenses.

You're about as dumb as Rahim Alem wasn't good. As Chaisson does a hell of a lot more for this defense than just pass rush. Go bore people who don't know football like you to death and stop boring people who know more than you to death.

The only reason why the defense had such a horrible game last night in the second half is that they weren't prepared to face a team like that last night. As Ole Miss with Plumlee and those running backs, in essence, became a triple-option offense last night in the second half. Had Aranda prepared our guys as he prepared them for the Georgia Southern game, then the defense would have shut down Ole Miss last night in the second half. However, that's not what happened.

In any event, there is no use to be pissed off about it or to spend any time worrying about it cause LSU won't face another team like Ole Miss for the rest of the season.

It was just a fluke game that the defense wasn't ready for. That's all, don't make it bigger than it actually is.

I agree. We have the wrong type of players for this 3-4 scheme. Nobody on the line has the ability to do anything but eat up blocks and they are for damn sure being eaten. Not trying to sound pessimistic but this line makes you appreciate the years of Gilmore, Godcheaux, LeCouture, etc. At least they showed they were willing to attack and be aggressive. Idk wtf this group is doing but this is my least favorite group of Dlinemen I’ve seen at LSU. They are just bad

Chaisson was a blue chip recruit he was like the #4 OLB coming out of high school. I don’t think talent is in question. It’s got to be coaching. Does the pass rushing drills only have them running straight up the field, completely taking themselves out of the play? It sure seems like it. Is it Dennis Johnson that coaches the OLBs? We’ve had like zero production from his group since he’s been here. Same for fricking Bill Johnson. Get his arse out of here. That was a puzzling hire bc his Saints Dlines fricking sucked. The D-Line under him is non existent.

Chaisson and Davenport each only have one move! Straight ahead! Both can’t contain the edge!

Watch other teams DL play.

Frankly I'm a little baffled at this point. If a team is basically playing three defensive tackles up front you'd think that they could at least have some success against the run. Sure the pass rush would suffer but those big guys could plug some holes and help stuff the run.

But that's not happening. Instead, these DT size players are wallowing around at the line of scrimmage and playing grab arse up front. Then you have Chaisson running around aimlessly. He's either running up field leaving a gaping hole behind him or he's harmlessly running up the field past the QB. He takes himself out of so many plays by getting too far up field.

Shelvin and Lawrence are the only defensive linemen that are consistently doing their jobs imo

You are kidding right? Last night they were the ones that were picked on.

He def didn’t contain the edge at all. All he wanted to do was rush inside gap. Ole Miss blockers were letting him run himself out the play

Strong side 4-3 LB, doesn't play 3-4 well at all. Needs a strong DE in front of him.

They were the second best run D in the SEC before last night and they were only giving up 3.1 ypc.

So yes, they were good against the run before last night.

This year the D has been getting the stops to start games . The offense puts up those big numbers and the D lets down a little. All there is to it. They are very talented.

Maybe it’s the coaches telling him to speed rush every time. He has the strength. He has gotten to the qb a bunch a bit late. And is held almost every play. The only other player I see held more is Cam Jordan.

Almost as if they are tired because of a high powered offense and have lack of depth.

His knee isn’t 100 percent right now. He only run up field to beat guys with his speed. No moves in the inside because I still think he’s not 100 percent. Guys are just not good in space tackling on defense. Then you have guys missing tackles and over pursuing on plays that leads to touchdowns.
