It was a clean hit and looked like one live. I mean, what is he supposed to do? CJ's shoulder is what cleaned his clock. I think he went stiff for about three or four seconds. Like a UFC knockout blow

I was thinking the same thing.
It was absolutely helmet to helmet. Nothing he coudl do about it. It wasn't intentional..but it's still a legit flag.

fail fail fail. Read my post a few posts up. The receiver's head DEFINITELY WENT BACK IMMEDIATELY. That necessarily implies that SOMETHING hit his head first. If it was his shoulder, then fine. But the one thing that is crystal clear is that it was not just shoulder to shoulder.
Again, if you are hit in the chest or shoulder, inertia will cause the head to go the opposite direction of the body. But if the head is hit first, the head goes STRAIGHT BACK.

Watching in frame by frame on sports center its hard to tell. It was a tough call not to make. It saved a touchdown at the time either way.

Great stills. Bad call. While I hate to admit it, I can actually see how the refs missed this one.

This discussion is useful...as I'll hear all day tomorrow about Ridley not getting out of bounds...I can reply with "who knows if it matters if they don't call the Personal Foul on 3rd and long".
Bottom line, that's a big call, and if the ref isn't sure, (which the timing shows he wasn't) then you can't make it. Replay shows he shouldn't have.

Look at the last angle of that youtube video. Chad is leading with his shoulder and his helmet is on the back side of the receiver. Not Helmet to helmet. What are some of you guys looking at?

Apparently not. The only way the head goes back FIRST AND IMMEDIATELY is if it is hit directly. Otherwise, it resists the change in motion.
I don't think Jones did it on purpose or anything, it just is what it is.

I thought it was a shoulder and head hit combined. However, with it being that close, you can't lead with the head on a hit like that. It will be called most times.

Three refs closer to the play did not call it. The flag came from 30 yds upfield.
