An undefeated Power 5 conference champion is not getting left out, unless all 5 are undefeated, which that's not happening with the Pac-12. It would be LSU, Clemson, Minnesota and Baylor in that scenario.

Why would you assume that UGA doesn’t control their own destiny?

In your scenario here you would most likely have 4 undefeated teams so Clemson would be in and Alabama would be out.

1. LSU
2. Minn.
3. Clemson
4. Baylor.

So what is your point in this hypothetical situation?

Exactly! A conference title should trump Bama being Bama, otherwise it devalues its significance. If Bama being Bama is enough to pass the eye test, then they have built in advantage every year.

I'm sorry if I get a bit worked up about this, but I'm so sick of the Bama narrative. So sick of the media white knighting for them with excuse after excuse. They're the only team in all of college football that can dictate their own narrative. It's like dealing with a spoiled child with entitlement issues. They don't want to be told no, but somebody needs to stand up to them and say look, you had your chance but you didn't win. You can't win every time. You're not going to the playoffs. End of story.

They've already backdoored into the BCSNCG/playoff twice without winning their division. This year, they chose to play Duke, New Mexico State, Southern Miss and Western Carolina in non-conference. You lose your only big game at home, that shouldn't impress the committee. Take away the uniforms, and they wouldn't be getting this kind of attention.

Yep, If it was LSU with that schedule, the committee wouldn't give us a second thought.

You are right. Sorry.

In my mind I had OSU still undefeated, but that would be impossible.

"Most likely controls their own destiny" does not mean "does not control their own destiny. "

That's where I think you are wrong. LSU's resume would blow away a 1 loss Oregon and Oklahoma. The only thing those teams would have would be conference championship. Had LSU lost 46-41, I think they would most likely get in.

With our schedule, of course. With Bama's schedule, I don't think so. No quality wins to this point.

I agree, but when you don't look at it in a vacuum, Oregon's isn't anything to brag about either.

I am expecting Bama to be 4th in tomorrow's poll, and for this board to go into a complete meltdown over nothing.

True, but at least Oregon played Auburn as their big non-conference game, while Alabama played Duke. Oregon did lose that one, but winning the Pac-12 at 12-1 should put them in a good spot.

I hope you are correct, but when all things are almost equal Bama will have that win over Auburn that Oregon doesn't.

If you are rooting against Bama, you have to hope:

Utah keeps winning and then loses to Oregon.

UGA punishes Auburn.

Or you need Baylor to keep winning, to at least boost Oklahoma up if they lose to them.

Minnesota running the table and beating OSU would also end Bama, because no way a one loss Bama goes before a one loss OSU.

That's what I'm afraid of. We'll see tomorrow, LSU/Ohio State/Clemson will be the top 3 in some order. No idea who will take the 4th spot, whoever gets it this week will say a lot about what the committee is thinking.

Not really, because plenty of other teams below a 4th ranked Bama would be able to pass them. They just need to win. It will be a melt over nothing.

What was Auburn's ranking to begin the season? I don't recall. If UGA beats Auburn on Saturday, then Bama's best win, if they do win in J-H, will be over a potentially unranked Auburn team with 3 losses. That's nothing to crow about.

I agree that we don't need to freak out if Bama is ranked 4th in the new CFP poll tomorrow night. There is still plenty of football to be played, and there will be opportunities for teams like Oregon/Utah, Minnesota, and OU/Baylor to pass the Gumps.

Auburn was ranked #16 in the AP poll to start the season. They're ranked #13 now, they'll probably still be ranked in the Iron Bowl even with a loss to Georgia.
