No more five seed easy path is a good thing. Most likely two byes for the SEC I’d imagine?

So 12th ranked CFP team is the 12th seed? Am I reading that correctly?

Except they’ll still base the rankings on total number of losses, regardless of schedule.

Can’t wait to see Indiana and SMU back in the CFP next year.

So do the conference champs still get auto bids, just not auto byes? Tweet and article in the thread didn't clarify.

It's why they should still use the top 12 teams for the playoffs, except rank those teams using the old BCS formula. Honestly, that was pretty good at taking a little bit of the human bias out of the equation. Compared to now, at least.

This would never happen, though, because the committee loves to have the power. It's why there's a committee.

Money grab at its finest! ...but its necessary. Arizona St and Boise St had no business getting a BYE last season while other teams got penalized for navigating through a tougher schedule/conference.

Hearing Illinois will be the new Indiana this year, returning a shite ton of production back from last year’s 10-3 team.

Will they give the #1 seed the lowest remaining seed and so on after the first round, or will it still be played as a straight bracket after initial seeding?

This should be the first step in making strength of schedule matter so maybe not so bad LSU scheduled Clemson now.

Isn't Saban on the committee this year? I'll bet he heavily pushes SOS to matter when they seed for playoffs.

LSU opening against Clemson won't be a bad deal in the end for LSU.

They should be ranked pretty high (ESPN has them at 2 pre-season). Lose to them and we have a loss on the road to the #2 team. Win, and we beat the #2 team on the road.

If it's our only loss, or 1 of only 2 losses, we should be in the top 12 at the end of the year.

No I’m sure there are still 5 auto bids for conference champs, but you won’t have #10 Arizona State as the 4 seed

Unless there is an auto qualifier ranked lower than 12 that would bump the true 12 out.

It would be a much bigger story if they were changing anything about who does and doesn’t qualify. It’s just seeding/byes.

5 conference champs get auto bids. If a conference champ is ranked lower than 12 they are moved up to 12 spot.

Both of them were in for 2024, based on ranking; Clemson was not, but Clemson and Arizona State displaced Bama so that was a good thing

I'm fine with it. Watching SMU upset Tennessee last year in the playoff would have been hilarious.

I hope they leave it at 12 teams and not turn the CFP into the NCAA Tournament.

Get rid of conference championship games at this point. So dumb.

So fricking stupid. Further cheapening the regular season and conference championships.

What about the teams that play a CC game and get no bye?
