while the catches were nice to watch, you do not want to see that many throws like that in a single game. Max's deep ball passing sucks. He short arms them 9/10 times.

I’ll say this.. after the first deep ball to Boutte (incomplete) and the first TD to Smith, I was worried that he might be running out of arm on the deep throws. But then I went back and watched them, and they weren’t that deep. Further, his deep ball got better as the night went on. Including quite a few that were deeper than those thirst two.

I bring this up for two reasons:
1. I don’t think those underthrown balls were due to an arm strength issue. I think he just misjudged them.
2. I think his deep ball accuracy will continue to get better as the coaches let him throw more of them.

Do I think he throws deep passes as well as Brennan? No. But Brennan is out, and Max is our QB. The fact that Brennan throws a great deep ball doesn’t mean Max can’t be good at it. Honestly I think the biggest thing he needs to work on is his timing/anticipation on the deep routes. But that will take time and experience.

That was amazing to witness, and all by LSU, so many talented receivers. LSU’s OC needs to keep slinging it like that, and LSU can really do some damage to SEC defenses, along with our Clyde clone.
but but but we have to establish the run!

I say let's learn how to run screens, of a variety of types, and with these studs.

And oh yeah- start Kiner.

CMU has the best DB's in the country so what LSU did against these future NFL Pro Bowl players is truly amazing

What is worrisome is that several of those throws could have been intercepted.

Which ones? The TD on the left side to Deion Smith could not have been intercepted unless Smith just decided tom do nothing.

When you have guys like LSU has in one on one, I’d rather the ball be under thrown then over thrown.

LSU has to make those throws to have any chance in a loaded SEC schedule.

Do you have any idea how many times Burrow threw a deep ball short so that his WR could come back to it knowing darn well that they practiced this and the WR has a huge advantage with his body control compared to a DB. The DB’s aren’t looking for the ball until it’s generally too late especially for a WR who’s the caliber of LSU’s.

While I loved seeing those throws and catches, I kept telling my friend that some of those get picked against upper tier sec talent

I still believe in the concept though

This....SEC level talent would of picked off probably 2 of those TD passes at least

LSU’s receivers looked like Chase and Jefferson out there, maybe one could have been or none!

That tells me nothing, what I saw last year was a YAC monster in Boutte. What I saw vs UCLA was a YAC monster in Boutte. What I saw last week was crap. What I saw yesterday was amazing grabs on short armed and in-accurate deep passes. He's not all bad, but his deep passing will get picked or broken up vs half decent SEC DBs.

Yes and no. An underthrown deep pass is a solid option if the WR plays it right and keeps the DBs back turned. Just think of it as a very very high arched back shoulder throw. I don't think we'll see Max hit a receiver in stride on these deep throws, because he waits too long to throw. But, I'll take a catchable underthrow if that's what it takes to stretch the field.

LSU receivers made hard catches look easy because they all kept doing it. I'm actually excited to see if their success continues in the SEC.

MJ was warming up at halftime and throwing the ball 60 yards in the air. I know because i watched and it surprised me. He has plenty of arm to hit the long ones. If he short arms it, it isn’t because of arm strength. It is because he misjudges the speed of the WR.

Everyone who is negative about this kid needs to leave him alone. For a freshman 5 games into his career, he is progressing nicely. Is he good enough to beat some of the better teams in our league this year? Probably not. He will still make freshman mistakes. But he is building a foundation to beat these teams consistently 2-3 years down the road, including Bama.

As tiger fans, we need to stop comparing all future QBs to Burrow’s last year. It was the greatest ever for a college QB to date. We will most likely never see it again but that doesn’t mean we won’t have great QB play. If MJ was playing for Bama, all the ESPN nimrods would be proclaiming he would be a Heisman candidate THIS YEAR and would win it 3 straight years.

I agree with you. To me, there are two things Max should work to improve on. If he nails it, we have an all-SEC QB:

1.) He needs to get the ball out quicker on virtually every route he’s throwing. Slants, posts, all of it, he seems like he’s waiting on the receiver to get more open instead of throwing him open. These guys have all the talent in the world, so Max should trust them. JB did this, and it worked out well.

2.) He has to better establish his platform. Despite all of the negative posts about Max, a lot of them are correct in the way that he has been throwing as he’s back pedaling. The first point I made above will help mitigate this problem to an extent, and the OLine issues certainly contribute here.

This stuff aside, I like Max as our starter. These are pretty easy to fix as well. Hopefully, the coaches can tweak the routes for speed and get him throwing sooner.

What melt, CMU is one of the most talented team's LSU will see this year. If they were in the SEC they would compete. What LSU did to these studs is truly amazing as it shows what they will do to Alabama and Florida. Their DB's are nothing special and they are lucky they don't play a team the quality of CMU outside of LSU.
