Worth keeping an eye on: #LSU OL coach Jeff Grimes mentioned here as a potential candidate for #BYU's OC position.
Cougars came after him a couple years ago. Got an extension and raise. Grimes spent 2004-06 as BYU's OL coach.

That's bizarre. Grimes was never an OC. Seems like a strange move.

Bring on Rob Sale! Former LSU player, plenty of experience as a oline coach, and he is from Monroe and could shut the Bama door in NE Louisiana.

Don't question it, his arse should've gotten his walking papers the same day as Cam. I hope he goes.

Rant will melt if they don't replace him with Kevin Mawae

I’ll never understand the Grimes hate.

Granted, RGC means different things at different places, and it's not coordinating, but it always has alot to do with both game planning and protections. The OL just adds to that as far as possible resume.
It's no secret I'm not a fan, so I wish him the best of luck. But it's also no secret he's experienced and OC might actually be a good-to-great fit for him.
The difference between a coordinator and position coach can be huge. Some take to one but not to other, in both directions. Alot of that comes down to personality, organizational skills, and overall ability to strategize.
quote:won't hear me complain if they do. However there's some very good options out there. Just a couple:
Rant will melt if they don't replace him with Kevin Mawae
Jim McNally
Alex Gibbs
James Cregg (maybe, replaced Gibbs)
An interesting one would be Lecharles Bently
In the end, it's hard to find a good balance between recruiter and OL coach wrapped into one position (that can relate to college kids).
That's why I wouldn't mind a Mawae. One could guess that he could teach technique and recruit; leave the other things such as RB protections to other coaches (e.g. Canada).

Every OC was at one point not an OC.
OL coach to OC is a natural next move for career progression.

His "best five" philosophy was a complete disaster here both on the field and from the perspective of roster management. That's the origin of the hate.

I think you mean run game coordinator. Sometimes AHC is just a title to give a guy prestiege or a raise. In Grimes' case IDK. It still seems odd BYU would not seek a bonafide OC. They have the money and profile to get a pretty decent candidate.

I love that we question an OL coach moving to O coordinator, but not D Line coach moved to head coach.

Please please please LSU football gods, make this happen. (Seriously doubt that it will though)
Yall can shake the P&G pom poms till the cows come home; as long as JG is the OL Coach, there will be no SEC West/SEC Championships at LSU. O has to upgrade there. (Occam's Razor)

You kidding? So many questioned it here it almost broke the internet!!!!

Coach O has done fine as a head coach. If you don’t like it, southern university will be happy to accept your allegiance as a fan
