Maybe one day we'll be allowed to stipulate in our contracts with other schools that BOTH teams play this game as their first game of the year. If either side breaks that agreement, there's a $50 million payout to the other team. Here's to hoping that will be allowed in the future.

Agreed. A tune up game against Southeastern, Northwestern State, etc would have let the coaches see both qbs against live competition, see that the O-line was shite, and our special teams needed a lot of work. Then the coaches could have done what coaches do and spot problems and fix them.
Either both teams have a tune up game or neither does. I don’t blame FSU or UCLA for scheduling a tuneup game before playing an SEC team. I also don’t blame the people who organized the neutral site games. This is on LSU’s AD.

We played a game before we played Tennessee
Not only did we play a game before, but it was supposed to be the third game of the season. We were supposed to lead off with North Texas, then host Arizona State, then have a week off before Tennessee. The Vols had already played two games, including a loss at Florida.
I get the point, but 05 Tennessee is a bad example of it.
