Ensminger didn’t do jack shite until Joe Brady came in.

Here is the deal with Ensminger. He was not some great offensive guru or innovator BUT the man knew and understood football at a very high level. Brady was very innovative but creating innovative plays and knowing understanding defensive schemes and when best to use certain plays he had not perfected yet. Thats where Ensminger really helped out and why the two of them together put together the best offense college football has ever seen. We could not have had that season without Brady but Ensminger definitely helped pull it all together. I’m sure Brady learned quite a bit from Ensminger.

That’s where Sloan needs the most help. Knowing when and what plays to call.

Can Ensminger play OL?

He knows what takes to run the ball and that's more than Davis and Sloan know

Ensminger forgot more offense than Sloan will ever know. All those gimmicks and Slinger is still the man.

Ensminger may have called some of the plays, but he didn’t install the offense. That wasn’t his offense. Joe Brady installed it, Joe Brady taught it, Joe Brady deserves most of the credit for it.

This is 100% incorrect.

We aren’t comparing Ensminger to Brady. It’s Sloan that’s the problem. An Ensminger offense would at least make sense. Play calls would be rational.

So Ensminger is the one who came up with that offense?

Ensminger sucked prior to Brady. People wanted him gone. He’d been fired from every single other place he was an OC at before LSU.

No Ensminger wouldn’t help this offense either.

It amazes me the people still want to credit Ensminger for the offense in 2019 when he couldn’t even manage to score a single point on his own against Bama the season before.

What's amazing is everyone giving Brady credit yet Ensminger had the title of OC not Brady. O gave credit to Brady for improving schemes and creative routes. However Brady and Ensminger had free reign to run the offense. They worked together on that. Lastly E CALLED THE PLAYS.

No, but he a tell Sloan's dumbass to stop calling RPO plays with a non mobile QB. OL could then execute their blocking assignments a bit easier.

This ^^^^ To infinity and beyond. It’s mind numbing that they still run the offense as if JD5 was still the QB.

You do realize that not a single defense will respect an RPO run by Nuss right? Against Ole Miss, Nuss threw into double coverage for close to another INT instead of taking a WIDE open 20 yards easily. There wasn’t anyone within 25 yards of him. They KNOW he’s not running. There’s zero reason to run that offense. It just makes the OLINE have to delay instead of firing off. It’s the antitheses of what’s to be run with a pro style QB.

if Ensminger was this awesome offensive mind and playcaller, why did it take him until his second to last year as a coach to run a functional offense? And why did the offense only change once Joe Brady came in?
many posters just don't want to criticize E, because he seems like a very good guy.

But the hard cold facts are that E had Burrow, Chase, Jefferson, Helaire, and the OL in 2018 and did little with that elite talent.

Only when Brady arrived in 2019 was the offense unleashed.

People can interpret those facts however they want, but rational people know what the difference was between 2018 and 2019.

LSU was average with Ensminger as OC in 2018. LSU became the best it had ever been with Brady in charge. Ensminger was a great Tiger and nice guy but Brady was the brains of 2019, regardless of what folks might want to pretend.
LSU and BK should give half of BK's money to Brady to come back and run the offense, and that would give BK a chance to build a legacy without being run out of town, and Brady could take over on BK's departure.
Just do it!

you are right, and have received ten downvotes . Amazing.

Ensminger played for LSU, so we’re naturally very fond of him.

But there is a reason Ensminger was no longer coordinating offenses. He was a tight ends coach. Granted, I do agree that Joe Brady and Ensminger TOGETHER were awesome.

He’s referring to the constant confusion/mislabeling by fans about QB zone reads and RPOs. Which are different

RPO = qb either hands it off or pulls it and passes
Zone read = qb either hands it off or pulls it and runs it himself

And yes we should never run a zone read. Because you are correct… Nuss is no threat to ever run.

RPO probably not either, but RPO is completely different … you’re referring to zone reads, not RPO, when you’re saying we shouldn’t run it because Nuss isn’t a threat to run.
