They changed the rules granting a 5th year of eligibility for a single class so the players forced to go pro due lack of eligibility at the time get to come back to college for another year.

And a lot of people got upset about it.

Quick summary is this.

1. These players played 4 years and were done with eligibility.

2. They entered into the NFL draft since they are done with college. None of the players in question were drafted.

3. They went to mini camp.

4. Right here is when the NCAA changed the rule to give a 5th year but not include this group.

5. Players sued to get their 5th year like every other player is now getting.

6. Players in mini camp who were not cut then signed a contract to be on a practice squad(still no preseason games have even started).

7. Players win lawsuit to get a 5th year of eligibility in Colorado. And other players sue to make sure they can go back even if they signed a contract with the NFL saying they would have not gone to the NFL at all if they knew they had a 5th year.

8. Players win this lawsuit as well that they can go back.

9. Players in training camp are cut from teams before NFL season starts. The 2 that LSU is involved with never played a down in any preseason game. They were in training camp and then were cut shortly after.

10. Internet goes nuts that these players could every possibly play again in college. And this is where we currently are.

Just go to your local Wal-Mart, get your LSU gear, and enjoy the season.

Don't make it too complicated.

Best advice is to turn around and go back where you came from.

Basically nobody knows shite till Thursday. As of now we have 4 or 5 new players coming in that finished their eligibility last season, but they have a real argument to have another season like everyone else who was in their HS class.

Thursday is a court hearing to see if their temporary restraining order should be extended, if not then they're ineligible, if so then they're eligible for the time being...

It's a clusterfrick

But LSU is playing Clemson @ the real death valley in less than 6 days and 22 hours

Some college kids filed suit against administrators. In state and not yet federal courts. You are welcome.

Not quite accurate. Pyburn has logged stats in all three preseason games, leading the NFL in preseason sacks. This weekend against the Jaguars alone, he recorded 2 sacks, a TFL, and a pass deflection on a 4th down.

But, huge asterisk, they wouldnt consider coming back for free. Its an absolute money grab as they now understand they aren't NFL type players and would have to get a really job.
I'm not down on what this poster explained.
But the upset people, and rightfully so, dont like the optics that it says to other guys on our team that committed to us and have blood, sweat, and tears invested in being a Tiger. And these guys are coming back for the money, period. And they will be taking scholarship and/or playing time away from our future stars. That part of it is hard to swallow for the college fan base. They can commit, grab money, and twist a knee...and we are in the hook for them

Good summary - so is this all a one time thing? In years going forward, will guys who leave a year early have the option to return for their last year if they don't make a roster?

Seems like a lot of fuss for a one year event, if that's the case.

There is no practice squad in the NFL until the season starts. Players who are signed to a contract are signed to the 90-man preseason roster.

When they are cut, they are either waived or released.

Once the waiver period clears on Monday afternoon, teams can finally begin filling their official 16-to-17-man practice squads using players who cleared waivers.

As you stated, Dae'Quan Wright & Zxavian Harris did log a single second in any preseason games, despite what has been reported on Yahoo Sports about Wright logging preseason game time.

Wright did practice and was dressed for one preseason game, but a minor injury kept him on the sideline.

Harris was cut before a single preseason game was played.

People calling them former NFL players are either dumb or disingenuous at best, outright liars at worst.
