Can our pitchers throw strikes in practice?

Why so many walks in games? Is it the umpires?

My issue is especially on 2-2 or 3-2 counts a lot of the pitches aren’t even close. You have to at least make it competitive to get some swing and miss strikeouts.

They apparently put a major emphasis on a tighter strike zone. It's been consistent every week, but makes it tough when you fall behind and either have to pipe one or paint the edges and maybe not get a call.
It's not all a tighter zone though. Some of our pitchers have been nowhere close to the zone at times.

We do walk too many people but the umpires being dog shite every weekend certainly doesn’t help.

Command has been an issue for some of the staff more than others
Better to give up a BB than to miss with a meatball middle/middle in a conference stacked with power hitting
Edited to add: I am a proponent of the electronic strike zone, but I don't see it being implemented in the next 5 years. Maybe not even the next decade.

I overheard 2 coaches at lsu speaking the other day. One said, “you know, our pitchers cannot throw a strike in practice to save their soul. We figure by the time they get to the game, they’ve gotten rid of all the bad pitches in them and only going to throw strikes.”

Just the results of a tighter zone. Our guys have to paint corners and would rather miss in the edges than serve up strikes that get pounded.
It’s unfortunate when they do both tho

We actually haven't walked all that many batters until this UK series. Way too many walks this weekend though.

Wrong.

The crazy thing is we are 5th I believe in the SEC in walks allowed per 9 innings. It’s not just LSU that it’s a huge issue.

That’s not trueSC was pretty bad.

I have two hairs on the top of my head these days (been that way for a long time). I'm always on the verge of pulling them when I see our pitchers continuously give up base hits on an 0-2 count. What happened to a high fast ball, slider that breaks just off the plate (strike zone), or a change up or 12-6 curve that drops to about 6 inches above the ground.

I’ve watched a lot of baseball this season and it’s nationwide. The umpires are squeezing the shite out of the zone and are wildly inconsistent at that

It’s a lot of things.
Hurd couldn’t find the zone for a while, and yesterday he found it and found a lot of bats too, unfortunately.

Well, if they throw all strikes then hits go up…

Umpires don’t give those couple inches off the plate anymore. I have to say, they’ve been very consistent. Florida walked like 17 batters in a game last weekend.

I’d rather give up 3-4 solo home runs a game than give up a 4 run inning without the opposing team getting a single base hit.
