PM won a road regional with Freshman. Jay lost the regional in Hattiesburg the following year.

He had Landon Marceaux. Jay did not have a legit SEC starter when he joined LSU. BTW, he joined kind of late because of Omaha.

PM had 13 SEC wins that season. With Landon Marceaux.
Jay had 17 SEC wins without a legit SEC caliber weekend starter.

Think about it. Jay was left a team that only won 13 SEC games and lost their ace. And they didn't really have a legit SEC starter behind him. And Jay won 17 SEC games. That's incredibly impressive.

FWIW, USM > Oregon. USM was like a 47 win team.

I can't stand some of y'all. It's ridiculous.

You know what's really cool? LSU won a championship series against Florida without ever pitching Skenes.

It’s amazing when you look at some of these posters and literally their entire posting history is just shitting on Jay.

It absolutely blows my mind. I don't get it.

The guy won 40+ games three straight seasons including a National Championship in year 2. And that was without being left much pitching. And they try to discredit it.

As great as the offense was last season the pitching won that championship. And he deserves so much credit for that after inheriting not a whole lot there. And having to constantly change pitching coaches.

It's one thing to have different opinions, but they seem to flat out hate the man. I don't get it. How do they have such hate for a coach that won a Natty a season ago? The players seem to absolutely love him. You are going to have guys like Cam Johnson leave all the time. Guys may not be ready, but they want to play ASAP. It happens. This isn't something to criticize him over. That's college sports now.

He could have easily lost this team given had bad their fortune was early on, but they bounced back and fought hard. That has to speak to his dedication and the buy-in he has with his players. He makes believers out of them. He's going to get the talent. Nobody works as hard as he does. Especially after heartbreak. How is that not respected? I will never forget the look he had on his face after we lost to USM. He looked like a man that was not going to let that happen again. The man cares and is 100% committed.

So he only walked 10 in the other 8 innings pitched? So as long as no one gets a hit, he’s looking at a 1.25 WHIP.

it’s not great but 16 in 9 is a lot worse than 10
in 8.

The hat haters are insane they defend BK who hasn’t won a title and they will send a guy that isn’t near .500 in his career in conference at LSU like McLoser but they go hard at the one coach with a title.

They see Paul backed into a super his last year.

We also had 0 left handed pitching for basically three years with Paul

The Paul vs JJ fan rivalry has always made no sense.

Paul retired. He was exhausted and he is still around the program looking way happier than a coach who was pushed out would.

Yea it’s weird that it’s somehow a rivalry when it’s not to the actual guys involved.

Paul won us a nc and also had a nice run, he also kinda stopped after his NC and again after his series appearance. It was time for a change

This seems pretty obvious. They had to be paying the kid to turn down $2M from the MLB.

He didn’t even make this years postseason roster. That NIL money would be better invested in more production from this Portal cycle.

You tell him his number is going down and he walks to get it elsewhere. Everyone wins here.

You don’t produce, you don’t get the bag. Only so much cheese to go around.

It’s truly perplexing. The amount of effort people put in to discrediting Jay is exhausting. Look, I appreciate Mainieri for everything, but some of these people are either forgetting or conveniently ignoring that PM and his teams did their fair share of choking/underachieving.

A record of 6 straight national seeds resulted in:

2012 - Lost in supers to a #4 seed
2013 - 0-2 in Omaha
2014 - Lost in regionals
2015 - 1-2 in Omaha
2016 - Lost in supers
2017 - Lost in CWS finals

I hate even having to act negative about that because it’s still a pretty good stretch, but people need to stop acting like PM was untouchable and Jay is some sort of massive downgrade.

No you don’t. If he can’t pitch his “arm touched by god” better than the guy in front of him. You pitch the guy in front of him.

Thought this thread was about Cam Johnson.

Anyways, I wish he'd stick around. Christian Little didn't know what a strike zone was for a while and then became a reliable arm this year. Cam has the talent you can't coach, he just needs to figure out his command.

Ma'am this is a Wendys.
