It is sad. We mourn people that affected us in positive, lasting ways. We hang on to them, because they're rare.

Got messages from Arkansas friends that were saddened by the news. It is that deep man. Coach Skip had a place in everyone’s heart.

I was 14 years old, at my first ever baseball regional, a guy I’ve just met - who we were tailgating with (Popcorn, RIP) - says “come on, I told this guy to wait here for us”. Walk up, and it’s Skip, the current AD at the time. Waiting in the middle of Skip Bertman Ave to speak with me. Was as chill and interested as you can be, about me, my athletic abilities, desire to be an LSU student-athlete etc.
Was an impressionable moment for sure. RIP GOAT.

This one hit me. As a boy growing up in Louisiana in the 90s thats the worst time I can remeber being that proud of a team from where I'm from. Hard to forget that feeling

Bro, old people pass away. Better to pass after living a long life…than to pass without experiencing a life filled with worship and praise. Skip did such!

About 20 years ago we went to see Skip and the Tigers play the Sun Devils in Packard Stadium. We lived in Tempe then.
When we asked Skip for a pre-game picture with my wife he graciously accepted without hesitation. Class act.

Skip’s career was the equivalent of a pitcher throwing a perfect game and also hitting for the cycle in the same game, we were fortunate to have him, and his name should be associated with every baseball championship that occurred and will happen in the future.

I was 11 years old in 1989 when Coach Bertman and Big Ben led the Tiger back to Omaha. I always played baseball but that was the season I fell in love with baseball, especially LSU baseball. He was one of my childhood idols and those teams were bigger than life to me. We listened to almost every game on the radio until we got to watch them on tv, which usually was the regionals and the CWS. Also, we never missed a Winn-Dixie Classic, went every year and saw every game. He will be missed by many, especially by me.
