Joey Chestnut got arrested for assault. Perfect timing for Yorke to slide into his role as hot dog eating champion

I hated seeing Yorke too, but PH for Patrick was the right move. He hasn't had an AB that he looked comfortable at in some time.
But who else would you PH? Carraway? Reaves? Clauss? None of those are very inspiring options

You need to understand Yorke is the poster boy for the failure of this team to compete on offense just like Guidry is the poster boy for the pitching failures.
The fact is we do not have a competitive roster. It got worse with Brown, Cooper and now Serna going down.

It has to be in some kind of contract. That was absurd, but pretty much a snapshot of JJ's decision making this year.

Crazy to not go Dardar there.
But the look on Jay’s face during the AB told me he needed one final confirmation that was the worst personnel decision of his career.
Glad Jay got closure and we can get back to winning CWS next year.

Only thing i can think of was he thought Yorke would be patient and maybe draw a walk with the top of the order coming up. I don't think he was confident any of the available bats on the bench were getting on base. Obviously that didn't happen

Somebody please make this make sense.
Sure. LSU had four hits. That sucked.
Jay went with a match up, left and left.
Yorke ph for Patrick right? Patrick had 2 SO. He was not doing much that night.
Jay took a chance. No one else was hitting anything. He had injuries and under performers all in the batting order. Played the match up game with a guy who could hit big at times.
I am not a Yorke fan either but I am not going to shite on a player who plays for LSU. Guy took a chance with LSU also and it probably killed his career just as much as it did not work out for LSU in the end. Make a decision and manage it from there.

Appreciate the response, and I can see a lot of it making sense...except LH vs LH. Statistically, that's an awful matchup for hitters in general. And I think I heard the broadcaster say that LH hitters had fared particularly poorly against that AU pitcher.
Seems like a dumb time to fight the analytics.

It is these type things that Jay does that make me shake my head and question his decisions.
Jay Johnson is a good coach, not great and definitely not elite.
I have said it many times but was shooshed because of Skenes and Crews and Tanks….
