Burrow's Stats Should Improve a Lot

As an OSU fan and fan of Burrow, I was a little bit surprised that his percentage of completions was not better. When he played at OSU (not that often), he was very accurate. In fact, he is a much better passer than J T Barrett, who always had a percentage of completions higher than 60%. (stats partially padded by jet sweeps, which were technically passes)

Then I came upon an interview with Rohan Davey, who said that Burrow would only know 25 plays in the first game because the offense was so complicated and he was required to understand the complicated routes of all of the receivers. So, not having a complete grasp of the offense and still getting used to the receivers, I am sure Burrow has been a bit hesitant to pull the trigger.

When Burrow's grasp of the offense increases and when he has more experience with the receivers, his true accuracy should become apparent. Also, of course, the offensive line has to give him time. (which it did during the Auburn game)

Good assessment. I also think that his misses are thrown to spots where they won't be intercepted. It's obvious that the coaches have put a premium on not turning the ball over so coupled with what you said are instructions to miss to the spot where you won't get picked.

ETA: He has only squeezed a few. The Dillon TD and the Jefferson missed 2pt come to mind. I may be wrong on those due to drinks.

First real game against Miami and first SEC road game in Jordan, dude has been a gamer. He showed some nerves in the 2nd and 3rd quarter against auburn l, but was money in the 4th. He is only going to get better! LSU could be a very dangerous team is the oline settles and receivers keep on their current pace.

FM: "was money in the 4th."

I obviously don't know LSU history like the regular posters here, but I suspect that, considering the gravity of the situation and the difficulty of the throw, that Burrow's pass to Dillon may be one of the top 10 passes in LSU history.

We’re not worried about it at all. If you watch the games he’s been very good with the ball. Drops and throwaways (very smart throwaways) have hurt his %

Auburn was his least accurate game but he’s well on his way.

We love Joe.

Idk about that we've had some huge passes in some big games before but it's probably in the top 25 or so but still, only being here for 3 months, that's amazing.

Like the previous poster said, when it counts he's accurate and comes through so that's really all that matters at this point. He could play like that the rest of the season and we would likely go 10-2. If he picks his game up some (which I suspect will happen) we could be looking at a special season in his first year.

I honestly don't think he's ready for the NFL yet so I think he knows that and will be back for a second year no matter his success this year. IMO the coaches need to put more trust into Burrow and this offense and let it fly. They are slowly gaining confidence. They still need tons of work to be on the level that would make us a dominant team. Our defense and STs is some of the best in the country and that alone will win you lots of games. When you couple that with an elevating offense, we could be very dangerous team by seasons end.

I like where this is going and he could start a trend here at LSU which we've been needing for a very long time. Teach our current QBs what a real leader is at that position. We've been needing someone like him since Matt Flynne. Things kinda fell apart after him bc of the suspension of Perrilloux. We've had young QBs teaching other young QBs how to lead or just had bad examples. He's perfect for that role and we have some great QBs behind him to carry in on.

He's going to have a great OL by seasons end and next year as well as great RBs and WRs to help him out. The defense is only getting stronger as the years pass and that isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Our STs is now improving so we should have a complete team in 2019. They'll be confident with high expectations and a schedule that isn't so hard to navigate. Things are looking good for Burrow. Nice get Orgeron and I'm glad y'all were stacked at that position!! GT

BB99 "Like the previous poster said, when it counts he's accurate and comes through so that's really all that matters at this point."

I agree with this, but if you are going to be competitive against Bama and Georgia, Joe is really going to have to be flinging it, which I think is very possible.

"I honestly don't think he's ready for the NFL"

Agree with this very much. He would benefit greatly from 2 years of work. (Unfortunately, it is looking more and more likely that Dwayne Haskins may be one and done at OSU)

Really hoping to see more LSU wins and Burrow really flinging it the rest of the season.

LSU has played football for 125 years. So I’m going to have to definitely disagree with that being a Top 10 pass in LSU history.

Appreciate the efforts though.

Some of the Top 10 should include:
-Mauck to Green (2003)
-Flynn to Byrd (2007)
-Hodson to Fuller (1988)
-Rohan to Reed (over and over and over again) (2001)
-Bluegrass Miracle - Randall to Devery (2002)
-Rohan to Royal (2000) - just one of my faves

And obviously I’m slanting towards the Golden Years of LSU football. I’ve not even considered Jamarcus (to Bowe, Buster, or Doucet), Mett (to Juice and OBJ), Herb Tyler (vs #1 Gators in 1997), or much less included Y.A. Tittle, Rabb (1958 Champs), Bert Jones, more of Hodson (to Wendell), or 50’s, 60’s and earlier.

I am so grateful Burrow found his way down to LSU. Says alot about his character and the type of man and QB he is with this much respect for him from his native Buckeye State. I am blown away.

My favorite stat is 4TDs (1 rushing) to 0 INTs or lost fumbles.

I was gonna say pump the brakes but if we make it to the playoff this year than you may be correct.

Watching Jefferson, Anthony Jennings, and Brandon Harris has been rough. Jefferson was much better than than the latter but seeing competent QB play is so damn refreshing.

William G: "seeing competent QB play is so damn refreshing."

What I am saying is that there is a very good chance you will be seeing a lot better than "competent" play before the end of the season.

Regarding top 10 Tigah passing tuddies, got to have JaMarcus’s walk-off @ Bama (2005) and JaMarcus to Doucet @AZ State (2005).

Great Rohan interview. Just shows ya that it takes a lot of time and work to really get settled in. He also went against two defenses loaded with NFL talent and a young Oline. Not to mention his Wr group was fairly unproven. These next 3 games will go a long way to getting Joe more comfortable with the offense and his Oline. Not gimmies either so if he can lead the tigers to 6-0 before UGA, he is gonna be soaring with confidence
