Again, we hardly ever threw in the redzone

I think Our biggest issue was that we lined up and ran ran ran the ball and never ran fades.

Better backs and O Line play will help, but play calling has to inprove, and Burrow does too. He doesn’t get a full pass.

Agreed on all points. Burrow isn't blameless, it's just such a glaring drop that it highlights issues with the scheme too.

I agree with this but that mentality won't beat the elite teams, you need TD's.

LSU finished with the lowest passer rating in the country in the red zone. Whatever we're doing here, we need to blow it up.

Nowhere to go but up. It really is baffling.

We also need a serviceable screen game.

Improve those two things, add two dynamic backs in Emery and Davis, and we will have some fun times on the ole bayou next season.

Can't wait.

he's also really bad on third downs

I have no stats to back it up, but it felt like he was very good on third downs versus UCF. It seemed that we ran read-option on every first down, and gained one yard. Then we were scrambling on second and third.

Bad playcalls and route combos. 2 of the int's were out routes, one in the EZ and the other around the 10. Dillon seemed to curl it in when he should have curled out (let db get him off his route also). The INT in the EZ was to Dee Anderson and should have been a fade/jump ball instead of out route to utilize his size advantage.

Or use the heavy sets and throw out of them, they will expect run and get caught looking in the backfield and the TE will run right by them and be wide open if they are undisciplined.

I think it’s Emsinger in the Redzone if you want to correct the thread title.

One of the reasons is we relied on Cole Tracy too much.

Hard to throw out of a heavy set when, apparently, you only have one tight end that's playable.

I think the bigger concern is that in 14 games we only threw in the red zone 42 times

The wide receivers need to get better separation.

Four pages on this and no one has mentioned the horrendous « hurry up » quick count plays called
- I’m guessing we are 50% on the year in being flagged for illegal formation, illegal motion, false start, blah blah blah! Hardly ever get a play off and end up turning a 1st or 2nd down and 3 or less into a 2nd or 3rd and long - doesn’t take a genius to figure out the next play - a pass play in tight coverage! I hope I never see a quick snap again for LSU again - fact is, Ive never seen any team run it and be overly successful - even Bama blows it up with false starts - anybody recall the playoff game versus OU - helped OU regain momentum.

And when we did, it was 2nd or 3rd down from more than 5 yards away, when the D was waiting for it.

While this is true, we have seen Jefferson and Chase emerge as guys who can get open. That quick slant to Chase is like ringing a fricking cash register. That said, you have to wonder about play calling down there when these two and Marshall seem like they can get open everywhere else on the field but the red zone.

None of the single problems mentioned in this thread are the issue with LSU’s red zone offense. They are ALL the problem. When the stats show this big of a disparity, it all needs to be stripped to the metal and rebuilt from the ground up.

You can throw to Tory carter and they did it a couple times this year and he was wide open.
