Yeah, and it made us look like LSU from last year, because they were penetrating and causing havoc in the pocket and backfield, and causing enough delay in route running to mess up the WR progression.

When did we put up 500 yards on offense last year ?

Yeah, it was mostly the play calling when we got closer to the red zone that hindered the point total. Auburn's D did a good job keeping us out, but the calls had zero creativity.

What should we have run?

If we had scored, no one would have had issues. We played a very good defense that took away vertical passing, knocked down slants and had the best front 7 in the game. We took what we could get.

They had a LBr up on JJ at the LOS to jam up the slants with a CB on him as well. That was why he was semi quiet yesterday. And Chase went off
also why we had greater than avg. success running the ball outside the redzone.

I agree with you. A dry field is a very different game. Still I was puzzled by many of the plays that the brain trust called.

Inside runs were objectively bad calls. The goalline offense needs to be better. No harm in admitting that.

Goal line and short yardage situations. We could use some creativity as opposed to “my guys are better than your guys” mentality

When you leave at least 10 points on the field due to penalties and/or poor play calling, I wouldn’t say that the offense had a good day. We could’ve blown them out of the stadium had we been able to capitalize on our opportunities.

Having a Dline as good as theirs is a great equalizer they were able to disrupt us in short yardage situations and get us into more negative plays than usual. Props to them for having some damn unicorns on their line.

Still a couple better play calls away from winning that game by 17 points. I’ll take that against a top 10 team.

Also ironically enough if their QB was like 10 percent more accurate, we would’ve scored a few times on defense as well. Too bad he can hardly keep the football inside the field of play

Easy question. We have the Heisman frontrunner who is completing nearly 80% of his passes along with three phenomenal WRs and I would have called at least one pass for that QB who is on pace to break the all-time single-season NCAA record for completion % to throw the ball in the end-zone to one of the two WRs who are both tied for 5th in the nation with 9 TDs or to the other WR who was leading the nation in TDs before he got hurt.

Auburn played a very tough and good game and there was no guarantee that we would score. But how about a misdirection pass (or even run) or something that makes the D think slightly before they act? We had a few runs and then threw behind the line of scrimmage basically on 4th down. It wasn't a good play calling series there.

I spoke too generally, when I should have stated that our red zone percentage looked like last year. We sure didn't have many scores for 500+ yards total offense.

Here's the pisser fellas, I'm not a negatiger never have been. Just a realist. We put up 22 point last year and 23 last night. Pass and complete all you want, if you don't score it doesn't really matter.

I'm happy for the W and happy we didnt blow them out because I think that would have an adverse impact on prepping for bama.

This team won this game because the players and despite the coaching, on the offensive side. Aranda called a perfect second half. Nothing negative to say about his performance but E went back to what he has always done once the pressure was on and it showed. I personally can’t wait until Brady takes over the offense.

Absolutely

Burrow was a great game manager. It will go unnoticed nationally, but his play against AU was one of his best performances this year.

I’ve been saying the same thing. I think the Auburn game was his best of the season considering the pressure he was under.

I think even the split second longer it took our receivers to come out of breaks on this field made it much easier to cover us

You don’t think their DBs slipped?

Yep.

people need to realize that even just above average coaches occasionally come in with a perfect game plan

When you can avoid getting frustrated and still come up with ways to succeed, that's the absolute sign of a championship quarterback

Yes. But it's pretty well known that a sloppy field hurts the offense more. Anyone who has played the game will tell you that

Alabama may play out of their mind but they don't have the players Auburn has on the front seven. I'll be surprised if Bama can get pressure rushing 4.

At one point they were stacking their LBs in a sort of defensive I Formation.
