I think with what little we saw of Goodwin, especially the first run shows he has some wheels! Kiner show some flashes that he is shifty, and looks for the hole right as he gets the ball...So, I think Kiner show some flashes of excellence and will be one of the main backs in just a few games.
Bech continues to surprise pleasantly.
OK, its McNeese, but the DL did their job and so did the back 7. LBers were much better. But DL can be dominant

However, still no offensive identity, and OL woes remain achilles heel!

Joe Brady should sue LSU the next time anyone associated with the university refers to the "Joe Brady Offense" in relation to 2021.

Maason Smith is going to be a monster

How did our roster become a total shite show just 19 months after a national championship?

i missed all of goodwins runs

kiner ran for 23 yards for the td, otherwise he didn’t do much.

and it was mcneese

y’all are quick to knight players based off of one play /one game against a subpar team

Any time you dominate another team like that on defense, it's a good thing.

If the offense can get it together and the defense plays like that, there's a chance to have at least a decent season.

Yeah Mason Smith looks to be the first real first round draft talent at interior DL since Saban’s recruits left.

If we are expanding the good things from yesterday to beyond the LSU football team, I’ll add:
- Ohio St, Texas, and Fla St all lost. The TX and Fla St losses were really ugly too. May help if there are any recruits we are battling those schools for (Armella?)
- A&M did not look good either.
- I realize I’m grasping at straws here but trying to force myself not to give up on the season after 2 games.

LSU 2019-Burrow-Brady-Aranda=LSU 2020/21.

I have the same concerns. I should have said if they can get it together a little bit. Maybe the figure a few things out like moving the pocket more quick passes. They might figure out a creative way to get some running lanes open. I'm trying to be as optimistic as possible.

Last night I was use a little hyperbole saying that we would lose to CMU and go winless in the SEC. I don't actually expect that to happen. I really hope we can get to 7 wins or so and at least have some fun.

Uh huh. And sometimes it is. We said the same thing in 2018 and how did that turn out? Come on, I’m as pissed as the next guy, and I want O gone, but please stop acting like we always suck. Memories on this board are waaay too short-term.

I dunno man. I think we’ll sneak a couple SEC wins, but CMU is going to give us fits.

Bright spots:

Defense played better, had a little more fire.
Mason Smith is a monster.
Jack Bech is special and needs to always be on the field.
The freshmen RBs show promise.
Nussmeier made some good throws. Though some of his throws were in heavy traffic and a better opponent may pick those. Despite that, he showed he has guts and the IT factor.
Our DBs made some really good open field tackles.

Realities:

O-line still sucks
TDP is not explosive and takes too long to get moving.
#10 (Jenkins?) needs to learn how to catch
Max hangs on to the ball too long. He is too afraid to throw the ball, and has no deep ball. His reads are awful.
Our LBs still seem confused. Majority of the great behind the line tackles or screen covers were our DBs not LBs.
Play calling is still garbage.

We need to stop chasing 2019 offense and run an offense that works for the team. Burrow/Brady ball is an anomaly, not a reality.

It really is. The mental aspect of high level football is more significant than folks may realize.

So maybe I’m dreaming but I think when Cam Lewis came in the defense looked the best during the whole game. Maybe he has a grasp of the play calling and can make the correct reads and can communicate. Also made a couple nice plays himself.

The O-line issues are more related to the unit than individual talent, IMO. I have had the good fortune to talk to a coach who coached O-line at a mid level college program. He made the comment once that O-line is the one place where the unit is more important than individual talent. A moderately talent synced up o-line will look infinitely better than a highly talented o-line each doing there own thing.

That cohesiveness really comes into play when plays go off script. A cohesive unit reacts as one player. providing that extra 2 seconds for a QB to adjust and execute. a non cohesive unit beaks down at the first wrinkle the defense throws at them.
