The LSU Tigers first-year head coach Brian Kelly has his work cut out for him setting up a new offense before the start of next season. After one of the Tigers spring practices, Kelly revealed what he sees out of the younger LSU running backs thus far.

“Yeah, you saw Armoni (Goodwin) hit a downhill direct snap inside our zone plan. He’s got low pads, obviously, just by his stature, but he’s explosive,” said Kelly. “(Josh) Williams has done a nice job. They’ve all got different skill sets, and they all can contribute in some fashion.”

Both Goodwin and Williams saw the field last season for the Tigers. Goodwin had 16 rushes for 65 yards averaging 4.1 yards per carry. Williams had 23 attempts for 107 yards with an average of 4.7 yards per carry.

I expect to see a good mix of RBs. No one back will have more than 15 carries in a game.

I really wish Corey Kiner wouldnt have transferred, but whatever.

Excited to see if Noah Cain can bounceback and be the 5 star he was supposed to be. If he and Emery can perform like they were projected the younger guys might not get a shot this year.

Corey seemed to have a deal too good to pass up going home. Hopefully Cain does bounce back. Should've been in that LSU class to start with.

...one of the weakest position groups on the team.

We need a major influx of talent at RB.

I know he got hurt but I would have sworn he had more than this. I seem to have made up some game where he had a big night

But is it really? Both Emory and Cain were 5 stars. I can’t remember if Cain was a high 4, or a 5, but I think the talent is definitely back there. Said every football coach/fan ever but, if we get solid OL play I’m expecting good things from our backs this year.

All indications are he is. Billy has dropped some hints.

In your opinion, have either of those guys looked like elite talent while in college?

That's always true. If your OL is dominant, any RB can be productive. Nick Brossette was productive. Maybe Emory just looks like a different guy. He's sat out for a year...presumably has his head on straight and will come into camp in his best condition. I view Cain in that Brossette mold.

However, if both of these guys are the same guys we've seen in their career, I stand by my statement. This position group is undertalented.

Disagree. It's similar to the S depth group that's talented but hasn't put it together yet. They have 3-4 big time recruits at that position. S has the same issue several big time young guys that were top 100 players that haven't put it together yet.

That does not = "least talented group". Goodwin coming out of HS looked elite and he looked pretty good in spring so far too. Dude has been on campus a year and has already shown development. He may be the starter day 1 who knows.

Leonard Fournette and Guice would have had down years behind the last 2 Olines we had.
