I disagree with your premise. I don’t believe the fan base “hates” Kelly. I believe many have recognized that he has made mind boggling mistakes during his tenure and does not have the team ready to play/contend for a championship.
Initially, he fired many on the staff (defensive personnel/strength coaches), and was forced to rehire some.
He has struggled in big games: losses to TAMU, blowout loss to Tennessee, Ole Miss and Alabama. Not to mention the apparent inability to prepare the team to dominate in all three phases.
He will never be bad enough to fire, but he has not proven to be able to win either. Eerily similar to James Franklin at Penn State.

Really? You think the games this year look like "the same exact football game" as when Jayden Daniels was here, we had no defense, and were winning or losing 51-45? I swear, I think that some people who post on here live in an alternate football universe.
Now, to be clear, I don't think Kelly is above criticism. But to say that it's just "the same old thing" every year is just flat wrong. In fact, what is amazing is how we seem to have found a radically different formula for being good-but-not-great every year. I do think the expectation this year should be a playoff berth. It's still in play--we'll see if we get there.

Hate is an extremely strong word. Nobody hates the man. However, Brian Kelly is a very unlikable person.
I was against his hiring because he was too old for my tastes. I much preferred a coach in his 40’s or lower 50’s at most.
Kelly has made numerous mistakes since he was hired that for some reason a lot of our fans give him a pass for.
He did NOT retain Blake Baker & Corey Raymond. He did retain our O-line coach, who is our weakest link. He brought in coaches with no ties to Louisiana or the gulf coast. Therefore, for two years our defense was atrocious.
He corrected the defensive situation to only screw up the offensive situation. Instead of bringing in a top flight OC when Denbrock left, he chose to promote a very inexperienced Sloan.
Two major mistakes that have cost this program dearly.
In my opinion, his age is why the attention to detail is not there right now. I don’t see a fundamentally strong physical football team. I see one with many cracks.
I wish we had a different coach. But… as long as he’s here, I’ll wish him the best, and hope for the best. But.. I’m damn sure not going to defend him non stop like some here do.
