Having said that, I'm glad Kirklin got to shine the way he did.
Kurland polished his 2 State, SEC West, SEC and National championship career with a 81 yard TD. What way to go out!!

I thought it would have been better for Nuss himself as a player to play. Look at the 2018 bowl game that many cite as Burrow’s moment to step into his future role as team leader. Players don’t get better by sitting on the sidelines. And he kinda needed the reps imo as a player and potential team leader.

At least 30 of you have used the same exact phrase. Can none of you think for yourselves?

Comparing the SEC championship game to the Tax act bowl is BS. He can be a very good college QB and not sniff the NFL. Kirkland won’t have a long NFL career, if he even has one, but he put to god use his redshirt year and played a big part in this season

By your flawed logic, Joe Burrow sucks. He took a redshirt and needed 5 years to become a superstar QB.

You really don’t know anything about the redshirt rule

Would he have played if it was the championship game?

isn't a big deal.
I will never agree with this. It mattered to the players who played last night. Playing and winning is a big deal.

Agree.
However, burning a redshirt and taking away a full year for the Texas Bowl is not the same thing.

30 of us have to have a different, unique opinion? How many different opinions are there to be had if a bowl game is meaningless or meaningful?

100% agree.

No reason for Nuss to burn a RS to play a meaningless bowl game with a large disadvantage. A game no one is going to remember in 3 months.
This thinking is frickING STUPID though.

If Brennan plays healthy all year, what does the redshirt matter? If he stays during that, then not only did he waste the redshirt year, he wasted another year just sitting at LSU when he could have been learning somewhere else.

If Nuss beats Brennan out next year, what does the redshirt matter?

If Brennan gets injured, it's Nuss's job, again why does the redshirt matter?

If he transfers before the season he'll still have 4 years to play 3 at any place he goes to. So why would a redshirt this year matter?

Burning his redshirt now would have done absolutely NOTHING to harm his future.

That kid is never going to start at LSU barring injury.

A bowl game you probably lose with him at QB anyway. Do you guys really think Nuss would have been a 22 point difference?

Correct.

But when he eventually transfers, he would lose a year of eligibility at his new school by playing in a meaningless bowl game for his old school.

Fvck that kid. If he thinks he needs 4 more years of college to get to the NFL, then he sucks anyway. He just wants an extra year to parachute out when he gets beat out by Howard.

You realize that you can use your RS whenever. He would have had the year regardless.

Well the elephant in the room is that as a Football player the only real relevant action is to play football. Red shirt, yellow shirt, blue shirt doesn’t matter. It’s a free country, for now, so Garret was well afforded the right to not play. However, he did not do himself and his football player self any favors by not playing. His existing stats aren’t eye popping. He does bring a certain energy but that hasn’t translated to a starting QB outcome so far.

I still can't fathom how another college team can tamper with a player, then hire them midseason, and there's no NCAA investigation into it. And then, get this, the prick that was dying to get onto the field so bad that his dad had to step in, suddenly won't take the field at a position that you were dying to play. There's a time in your life where you either become the hero people need (thank you, Kirkland, 1000 times over), or you screw it all up.

I don't get how any fan would say a game is meaningless, shite like this is why fans are becoming as apathetic as I've seen in my life. I realize it's a coping mechanism for you all, because LSU can barely field a team, that saying the game doesn't matter suddenly makes it so, but it's a lie. When players don't play, when they don't care, neither will the fans.

Howard is Redshirting next year. He’s already stated that. Nuss will be the backup, and will probably play in more than 4 games.
