He was late to check IMO. You need to be looking in on the 2nd or 3rd step. I honestly don't think he could find it. You're supposed to look in and ball in the air you freeze and find it.

1. You get a double play off a hit and run.
2. You get a strike-em-out, throw-em-out double play.
3. A runner gets picked off. Badly.

I know what you are saying. A hit and run has its uses. Not in the second inning with a struggling fly ball hitter at the plate with no outs.
