fit their narrative

O has TD trolls on the athletic department payroll protecting him from criticism and cheerleading (cough, cough DerekRee). They are poised to blame Aranda for any losses, even in a 29-0 game.

Back to OP, it still seems that we are lacking the studs up front like we used to have, especially in the middle. Our DL used to cave in the pocket against virtually everyone we played, now, not so much.

No there isn't.

Against Texas, we played containment.

I am very happy of the Texas win but LSU needs to learn how to wrap up or we going to get raped down the line with some of the SEC teams!

I don't think it was the scheme, I think it was the players. Harris is bad in coverage and can't tackle. Phillips also seems to be awful at guarding against the pass. The lack of a true MLB is hurting this team. They are missing Devin White's leadership. Phillips could have stopped a lot of those plays to the slot receiver had he been a yard or two to the side in the passing lane.

Or maybe they are concerned our D's performance after a poor outing. We still don't seem to be able to generate pressure to effect the QB. With our DB's we should be able to get some coverage sacks.
Aranda is a really good DC but I'm not sure he's as outstanding as some have made him out to be.
This is his year to demonstrate his chops.

I'm not going to judge him on the Texas game any more than I would judge John Chavis for the WVU game in 2011.

Aranda is somehow above reproach on this board.

If this was a one game fluke with Aranda, I’d be more apt to forgive and forget. But it’s becoming a trend.

No it's not. He had a bad last drive vs A&M, the defense played great for 3.75 quarters.

The secondary was depleted vs UCF.

D.A. is a great coach, period, and he has an excellent DEF coaching staff. With that said in recent games, against quality opponents, we have struggled to get off the field on 3d down. It is a physical and mental 'killer' to a DEF, and obviously wears down the collective unit. I have no doubt the staff is looking at personnel and schemes to clean this up as we must improve in this area to compete and win in Oct and Nov.

Anyone else notice LSU defenders narrowly missing about 5 of those third down conversions. I remember Harris, Phillips and Stevens on multiple plays leaping and missing by an inch. Defense was that close to getting off the field several times. Credit to Texas QB to fit it into tight windows.

100% This - Go back and rewatch the game and you will clearly realize Texas just executed way above average on some tight plays and in some difficult situations.

I haven't heard anyone say Aranda is a sacred cow. He can and should be criticized for bad performance.
I haven't heard anyone say the defense shouldn't be criticized for its performance against Texas.
What i have observed on this board PRIOR to the Texas game was a sudden and (to me) inexplicable proliferation of posts highly critical of Aranda.
And one explanation for it, albeit an unflattering one, is that it is coming from Orgeron. This would be consistent with other immature and insecure actions Da Coach O has taken in the past. I would like to know if this is, in fact, coming from Ed.

Except there was a consensus across the board nationally that Aranda was a great DC (has been contacted by other teams many time) as well as has the statistics to prove he is a good DC.

AND he is the highest paid assistant coach in the nation.

You think these are valid reasons so that people should not question the results?

Coach O had none of those things.

AND is tied for 8th place with the Arkansas head coach in the SEC in salary.

Is matching or exceeding expectations but YES bash away.

I really think you have this shite backwards.

My problem with the defense during the texas game is, it seems like it was mostly a schematic issue. We rushed 4 and played contain, and got picked apart through 3 qtrs, sometimes rushing 3 with the same results.

I dont know how many times we sent 5-6, but i specifically remember 2, maybe 3 times that resulted in sacks.

Not sure why in the 4th we didnt send pressure up the middle while still containing with DE's to keep Sam in the pocket.

but then again, i don't make $2.5M to call defense.

OP isn’t going to like this? Wrong! The BR sports paper says Coach O is responsible for the defensive plan. 104.5 says it was Aranda. Proves my point about BR radio guys going after Aranda. Excellent!

I’m confused about your post. It’s common knowledge that you stick to the administration narrative when discussing coaches, etc.

Is it the administration’s position that Aranda isn’t performing well?

I think Orgeron was more concerned with the D linement not being able to come off the blocks once he was contained in the pocket. Their offensive line was extremely physical.
