The more they have the less they are worth. Back when there were fewer bowls they meant more to make it to one. Now they amount to participation trophys.

The playoff consuming all of the good teams is the issue

If you don’t like them, don’t watch them.

I like football, so the more the merrier! This football season is coming to a fast end so I get as much in as possible. Nobody forces you to watch and Hallmark is still showing Christmas movies for you.

Things change. And always will. We have playoffs now. The winner is more of a champion now than the days where AP writers and coaches chose a champion. The rest of the non playoff games are about money, and fans get to see their team play one more time. On the practical side teams get more practices. I do miss the bowl games as they once were but time marches on

What they are worth is up to the advertisers that give a shite about bowl names we don't recognize, with teams we don't give a shite about. It's still football, and better than the alternative.

What was the Independence bowl worth in the 90s? The Rose bowl has been worth -0- to me forever, because IDGAF about the Big 10 or PAC12. But it's better than watching bowling or darts.

I think the meaningless bowls should follow the way the Pop Tart bowl does it now. It's meant to be a fun and entertaining time watching an exhibition game. The way the mascots interacted with the players and fans before, during, and after the game was hilarious and unique, plus all the flair surrounding it. There were many social media influencers and youtubers at the game promoting it. They must have been paid by the bowl to promote them, and honestly they did a great job doing so. My wife now wants to attend the Pop Tart Bowl.

The bowls were meant to celebrate the end of the season, reward the teams for their journey during the season, provide the players with a rewarding experience (win or lose), and matchup teams from other conferences setting a random competitive matchup. Over the past 35+ years the journey to get a #1 vs #2 matchup occurred, which was refined and updated along the way to perfect it. During that time the other bowls slowly became more and more meaningless.

Outside of the playoff bowls, the bowls should be centered around having fun and enjoying a celebration of the sport itself from both a fan and player experience. The Cheez-it showers, the winning team devouring a life size pop tart while its pop tart brother watches in horror....it makes it entertaining and provides a different take on competing to win, all while having levity.

We need to start debt reduction. Eliminate at least half of these.
