Perhaps. But if it's out of necessity I'd rather him be moved around to create mismatches

What position group is Lee working with now? Is he back with receivers, is he at tight end? Really wish this guy could find his calling card and make some noise.

Case-in-point:
Jenkins as a sophomore had 23 receptions for 397 yards and 2 TDs
Marshall as a sophomore had 46 receptions for 671 yards and 13 TDs (and he was 3rd behind Jefferson and Chase)

Finding a really good #2 and #3 receiver has to be the primary goal in the off-season.

I agree with the overall premise that we need a #2 and #3 to emerge. But I don’t know that you can really make a lot of judgements about the returning guys based on last year. Everyone was 2 spots further back in the pecking order for the bulk of the season, when Marshall and Gilbert were available. And we had 3 different starting QBs in 10 games.

What are we going to do end arounds with him now? His role was pretty damn big by the end of last year.

I look for Peetz to get creative with how they get boutte the ball much like the Panthers did with McCaffrey while he was there.

Ok so jet sweeps like Matt Canada?

Catching the football is the problem, not getting open.
I've seen LSU players go from stone hands to sticky gloves multiple times over the past decade, so i'm not bothered by that.

I saw what you said on Jenkins, but obviously swapping so many players in and out, and getting Gilbert involved really moved the receptions around.

Gilbert had 35 receptions in only 8 games. Put that over 13 games and you're looking at 57 receptions for ONE TE. That shows you how insane he was and how much LSU now valued their TEs.

Koy Moore only had one less reception than Jenkins so there was no true #2 WR because we were moving guys around so much. Hell McMath had 14 receptions in only 6 games compared to their 22 and 23 in 10 games which would put him right around what they had in 10 games. If not for Marshall leaving, Boutte's numbers wouldn't be much higher than either of them.

I said all that to say, LSU has plenty of options for the #2 and #3, and that's not even counting the freshman (Hilton is a guy I think could pop early).

This is no different than what they did with Jefferson and Chase. Jefferson wasn't a slot guy his first year but ran the vast majority of his plays out of that in 2019. Chase was moved all over, even in the backfield. I think they like Boutte as a versatile guy like Chase that can line up all over to create mismatches. I expect him to hit 1300 receiving next year. If we can get Gilbert back, then we have the best unit of pass catchers in the SEC next year.

should have started his career out on defense. Him and Sullivan wasted their potential because they wanted to play the diva position (WR), instead of their natural positions.

Last depth chart I saw I think he was listed as tight end so who knows.

the occasional jet sweep would be good, for sure. Canada called it at least once every series. It became too predictable and easily to defend.

NOOOOOO! I do hope he sees some reps at WR for a few gimmick-type plays, he will not line up at WR on a regular basis.
