These young men need to be on the field at all times. It’s astonishing the amount of talent we have in this freshman class and they have really showed out these first few games.

I think if we can ever figure out this blocking thing, we could have a very potent offense. Only time will tell but the future is bright for these young tigers!

the recruiting effort at LSU is unmatched outside of Bama IMHO and it shows on the field.

At WR and maybe RB, I give you that.

I almost started a thread on this , but more specifically, how hard it would be to decide who starts at the receivers positions.

RB is set in stone now , I’m sure.
Bech will be our tight end unless we are in a situation where we need our tight end attached to the wideout.
Boutte is obviously the #1 receiver
If Palmer is still out, then the slot receiver would be koy Moore or Devonta lee . Palmer may end up being a backup when he comes back though.

As far as the other receiver position, that’s a tough one to make the call on.
We thought it was Jenkins at the beginning of the year, but if you noticed, Jenkins was benched last game because of his drops in the first two games . We also thought it would be Brian Thomas jr as the backup to Jenkins before Jenkins dropped passes and got lbenched

So what about Deion smith now . lol how in the hell can we not start him after last week. He’s got to be a starter somewhere

Then you have nabors who is probably going to rotate in occasionally until he gets back to being healthy and picks up on the college game. I mean nabors has only played a little and had 1 catch.
Good news is that he’s gotta be healthy by now, considering he came in at the end of a blowout. If we weren’t so loaded at receiver then I would throw nabors out into the fire, but we’re so deep that I’d rather bring him along slow

Imo, if we want to start the game with our best receivers no matter where they lineup, then you have to play one of these freshman in the slot. Even if they don’t fit the prototypical size of a slot receiver.

Who do y’all think we could play in the slot out of btjr, Deion smith , or Malik nabors?

I think you have to have bech at tight end, kiner at rb, boutte as an outside receiver, Brian Thomas at the other outside receiver, and Deion in the slot , instead of koy, lee , or Palmer .
Is this doable or do we just play lee or Moore in the slot, and then rotate different guys in as the other outside receiver ?

I think Boutte, Bech Smith and Kiner have set themselves apart and should be starters.

Idk if Nabors has done enough yet to box out Thomas. Small body of work for both of them.

Give me Kiner as a bell cow at least until Goodwin comes back.

I’m glad you brought these 2 guys up. Only goes to show you have stupid deep where are at WR.

The only reason I didn’t have them listed in the OP is because I haven’t seen enough quite yet to put them ahead of the other 4. BTJ has shown some flashes and I haven’t really seen much from Hilton. Has he gotten any PT in the first 3 games? I honestly haven’t noticed.

Bech, Smith and Kiner look like the absolute real deal to me. I just hope they are developed enough to make a real difference against SEC defenses this year.

Yeah I agree, If it was me , Id play the best three guys at wideout. I count bech as a tight end .

I don’t think nfl teams, or in this case schools ,are open minded enough when it comes to where to play different receivers . They act like a slot guy has to be a short quick receiver. I say frick that.
Give me our best three which is obviously smith, boutte ,and bt jr . If they won’t do that and they just want the slot guy to be a traditional slot guy ,then I would have a hard time deciding between Palmer. lee, kirklin ,(when healthy) and Moore, to be the staryer

You’re definitely seeing better WR in the slot. At least in college.

Look at where Smith was burning us last year, or where we played Jefferson.

Some of it probably comes down to what position(s) they have played during practice/camp.

If none of the guys being listed as “must start” receivers have significant practice reps at Y, then they probably aren’t all going to be in the field at the same time. The coaches can start giving them reps at Y this week but you’re still talking about true freshmen so I don’t know if that’s necessarily the best move.

Regarding BTJ - I see a lot of folks saying he’s clearly one of our best 4. Didn’t he have some critical drops in the first two games as well, though?

To me, Boutte, Bech, and Smith have clearly set themselves apart. I don’t think there’s nearly as much separation (as of right now based on actual game performance) between the rest.
