re: Bob Pettit. Why does he not get more love on here?

He lives in Nola. He's a gentle giant and is in better shape than most people his age. Sort of like Archie Manning, I see him around often and he puts on no airs despite being a living legend.

Yes, I saw him play in high school and college. Never saw him play in the pros except on TV.

He does deserve more love, but he suffers from the same problem many tiger greats do. He played before most on this board were born.

yes, he still lives here in town. He goes to the baseball games. I sit on the same row as him. He don’t miss many games.

Great Tiger and pro. Others have posted his stats and accomplishments. He deserves for all Tigers to read this thread at least twice.
He deserves a statue, and deserves to be able to stand in front of it.
Let’s lobby for these things and a Day of Appreciation.

I remember hearing he is the only player in NBA history to average over 20 ppg every season of his entire career.
maybe when he retired. But Michael Jordan definitely did, hit 20 on the nose his last year. Petit also retired at a fairly early age.

I used to see him pretty often on Poydras Street. I believe he was with one of the banks downtown. Very trim and easy to spot being so tall.

Damn, that’s a great starting 5.
That is the best starting five any college could put together over the lifetime of their basketball program. Only UCLA could put an all-time team close to LSU's all-time starting five.

This answers your question.

I think you would have to be in your 80's to have seen him play at LSU. When he turned pro none of the games were televised in Baton Rouge that I know of. Imagine you young guys of an era when there were two tv stations that came in on an antenna, the NBA was not that popular and all of the teams were in the north, midwest or west. I remember as a small kid that I was thrilled because I got to see a short clip of Bob Cousy of the Boston Celtics on the sports news. I think I also saw a couple on Petit. That was it period other than reading about the games in the newspaper.

He needs a new street that doesn't go through Somalia.

Even in his old age , he is jacked. Not just tall. Built. Hands are gigantic. Also very nice guy

He does all the time. But people who watched him play barely can use a phone.

You can still see what he would do to this league on YouTube. He was deadly from 10-15’.
Congrats on still being alive!

When I first started collecting sports cards I wanted to get all of the NBA’s 50 greatest players (autographed), and then I found out Bob Pettit went to LSU, even weirder is that at the time I had no idea.
I’m way too young to have seen him play, so I went on several deep dives of highlights with this guy. His footwork was incredible in the post, and the drop step, up-and-under, he was great. His hook shot was Kareem-esque — it was basically unguardable. He had a great fadeaway. Great jump shooter. Deceptively quick. Great rebounder. He was a spectacular player from what I’ve seen.
Pete Maravich is obviously the GOAT but I didn’t even know Pettit played for LSU for the longest time, there’s really no excuse for that, dude was a legend.
