Bo Pelini's defenses at LSU were best we've ever had.

LSU was ranked 3rd nationally in total defense (yds per game) for each of his three years with the Tigers. That's an incredible stat. Compared to other programs they were the best for that 3 year stretch.
2005
Bama 2nd
LSU 3rd
OSU 5th
2006
LSU 3rd
OSU 12th
Bama 20th
2007
OSU 1st
LSU 3rd
Bama 33rd
Should be fun......

Them boys are going to eat. It isn’t some trickery either, the offense knows it’s coming and it’s coming hard every fricking play.

Best we’ve ever had
Misread the premise here of the 3 years. Under that idea, yes, that was the best stretch.

He didn't say best ever for one year, he clearly was speaking over a period of time. Pelini didn't have the talent of 03 or of the best Chavis defenses, with the amazing talent we have now this is gonna be so fun to watch, we are gonna be offensive on defense

Some of those 80s defenses were damn good as well

Damone clark gonna own the middle

Pelini had plenty of of Talent
We were a top 5 class in 03, 04, 07
Too 15 in 05 (because of the late coaching change) and Top 10 in 06

It’s insane how loaded we are on defense after the draft. What O done is nothing short of amazing.

Pelini coming here was bad news for the rest of the league. The whole team gonna eat offense and defense

Coach O said he wanted to build a dynasty. Hopefully last year was the beginning

Is that good? I mean you baws are always bitching about Les's offense because they didn't use trickery, the defense knew what was coming and they came hard every fricking play.
Asking for a friend.

This coronavirus crap and no sports has gone on so long I forgot that Aranda left to go to Baylor and Bo Pelini was our D-coordinator again.

I am sorry but I am not buying into the total domination defense like we used to have back in the day when we had everyone out gunned. I do expect Pellini to field an excellent defense but these new modern offenses have found ways to scheme around big brute players. They have learned to throw over big linemen and run the RPO.
Hence, you see the new breed of lighter and high motor players like Zavier Carter who is 6'4" and 210 lbs. These are guys who can rush the QB, cover receivers, and tackle in the open field. These are the kind of guys that you need to run down spread scheme offenses. These guys are also on occasion going to give up a few yards too.
People complained about Aranda's hybrid defenses but he also faced more firepower than anybody else in college football and passed the test every time. Pellini may surprise me and put an absolute smothering defense on the field but I am not expecting it.

yeah, nah. great defenses generally start up front, and we were pretty loaded there during Pelini's first stint. he inherited guys like Kyle Williams, Wroten, Dorsey, Tyson Jackson, Mel Oliver, and Cheese Alexander and added RJF, Nevis, and Al Woods. oh yeah, and the Pittmans.
back 7 wasn't too bad either with Laron, Ali, Steltz, Perry Riley, Beckwith, Chevis and Zenon.
and I'm pretty sure I forgot some guys. as with all defenses, we had some weak spots due to stuff like injury and inexperience, but overall those defenses were loaded.

Agree with most of this.
For those who recall '05 - '07, there were some but not lots of teams doing all the trendy stuff on O like today. The couple Pelini did face (UF w/ Tebow and Arky w/ McFadden), didn't seem like he really knew how to crack the code.
I will say this, if Bo has learned in the intervening years, then watch out. Fun times ahead.
ETA: our DBs were not as good then as they are now with few exceptions (LaRon, Steltz had a great yr in '07). Chad Jones was a tr fr Pelini's last year. TBH, the others would seldom see the field.

I do expect them to be very good but I just think the game has evolved and the defense has/will as well. I dont think you will see those mammoth DL's vs the gargantuan OL's battle for game control like we used to. It is all about guarding space now.

I think what this is referring to is the 1st OT. We were up 35-28 and had Arky 4th and 10 and we DIDN'T blitz. Arky converted and you know the rest.
Probably one Bo wishes he had back.
