Actually a good hire, but he hasnt coached on this level in a long time. Offenses in the sec have changed. So hopefully he has some new ideas if needed. Also worried about switching schemes, could be a year or 2 of recruiting to get your players.
Also kind of funny that Les is still having an impact on this program. Hired the head coach, the OC and of course Bo having previous ties to the program because of Les.

It feels like a very good day for LSU.
I think BP is a good hire and LSU D will be in great hands
But most importantly, the reform of the university admin is still going strong. first Alleva, then Fking, and now Mari Fuentes-Martin is gone
Hot dog, what a great day

The connections are incidental at best and the “impact” is minimal. Les Miles impact on this program is over with, thank God!! This is 100% Orgeron’s program.

Pelini was the HC of Nebraska in 2008. The Malveto combo was the DC of LSU in 2008.
Pelini was DC at LSU from 2005 to 2007.
Correct stats should be:
2005: 38 2005 NCAA Sack Stats
2006: 40 2006 NCAA Sack Stats
2007: 37 2007 NCAA Sack Stats

I resent that. But I was unhappy when he left. I thought he was an excellent defensive coach. With the players he will have at LSU, he should do very well.

You don't think they run similar offenses in FCS or that they are prohibited to run those offenses in FCS , come on man.l

Aranda made 2.5/yr., that's 1/2 million savings to put towards a PGC.

My response to this hire is that I am both skeptical and hopeful. I know that sounds dumb. But my reasons are that I don't know if his tactics will turn out to be outdated, considering how long it's been since we've seen him run a defense.
But at the same time, if he is capable of adapting to changing offenses (unlike Chavis) then I prefer his willingness to attack, over Aranda's rather passive approach. And that's not meant as a parting cheap shot on Aranda. He did a reasonably good job here, but I felt like he did less with more, when he seemed to do the exact opposite at Wisconsin. I expected more out of his defenses, but the style was more about trying to trick people, instead of consistently turning our athletes loose. When he did attack, it was highly successful. Which is why I never understood his unwillingness to stay aggressive.
I don't think that will be an issue with Pelini. It just remains to be seen if he can deal with the more open style of offense.

i liked aranda, but im freaking PUMPED about Pelini.
Pelini never had our current talent level at DB that we have right now.

Yall don't think they run similar offenses in FCS? Come on, think past your noses for a little bit. This is a lame excuse to be concerned about the hire.

its honestly ridiculous that this is people's main concern. AS i mentioned earlier in this thread, FCS teams are more innovative and try WAY more crazy shite than FBS teams do.
Pelini's floor with with talent is above average, which is what we just had. His ceiling is PAIN

I absolutely DO NOT think they run those offenses in the FCS. Know why? Because their QB's pretty much suck, and can't operate in that kind of system. So they run Army/Navy type offense or, at best, a spread option, with emphasis on "option", as they will mostly just run out of it. Pelini didn't have to deal with stars all over the field at that level.
If you had thought past your own nose on that one, you wouldn't have made such comment.

When will his press conference most likely be?
Posted on 1/27/20 at 5:21 pm to Metaloctopus
You don't know what you're talking about, it's all relative, there's stars at that level, it's just played at their level and as a coordinator you have to deal with their mismatches. Chad Pennington, Joe flacco and Wentz from Philadelphia played in the FCS. You obviously don't watch a lot of football, they are very creative and innovative in the FCS. PJ Fleck was in FCS (now at Minnesota) and look what he did to Auburn in the bowl game.

Obviously you don't remember how good he is.

???? Perhaps CEO wants stability over an up-and-comer that he would need to replace every couple of years.

people who are so happy to be back to Bo and the 4-3 to get more pressure please read below:
Sacks Under Bo:
2006: 39
2007: 37
2008: 28
Sacks under Aranda:
2016:36
2017:39
2018:34
2019:37
so... where are you getting this false hope from? Just curious. and Aranda's defense wasnt really about rushing the passer. so what does that say about Bo's?
More games played in a season than now.

They had aranda @2.5M and still had enough set aside for a NICE raise for Brady so I’d assume they have enough left.
