re: What to expect in a 4-3 defense

Meh..,they did alright. They had like 71 TO while he was here. Last year we had 22. Hes in there. We also just haven’t been scoring defensive TD like we used to. I’d like to see that happen more.

COMPLETELY and utterly ridiculous. Spread offenses and RPO offenses LITERALLY grew from FCS ranks and smaller schools in order to negate the OVERWHELMING talent deficit they faced. Small schools knew they couldn’t line up smash mouth with the big boys so they used spread scheme and multi sets to counter their lack of physicality. These offenses have been around FOREVER...you’re just noticing FB because the big boys have adapted now themselves. I remember Hal mumme running multiple sets in Kentucky LING LONG ago when his understudy was a guy they call mike leach. THIS IS NOT NEW...this IS what FCS and smaller schools have turned to for quite some time. Don’t be silly...call it by whatever name you want but the AIR RAID and such schemes have been around for decades. Yes more teams are mixing it with RPO schemes now as a sort of hybri d air raid/option but don’t be so foolish.

LOL recruits have been lining up like it’s opening night for years for Saban to Chew them out. This is football...they want to win and they want to reach the next level. Give them that and they don’t care.

Yea I’m not sure what that guy thinks of aranda. I think aranda is a top notch DC...I just personally didn’t like his style and fit at LSU. Don’t time wrong he’s top notch...I just prefer an attacking little zone in the backend press man billy defense like we have grown to love here at LSU. I understand that you live by the sword you die by the sword but...give me the sword ANY DAY. The thing that’s been depressing is that our defense has scored literally no points as of late. I miss those plays. We had ZERO defensive TD that stayed on the board this year and only a safety.
Let’s get real...we won’t have Joey Burrow every year and those defensive TD knock the wind out of the opponent. If we can couple that with an ACTUAL offense it’ll be another level.

Pelini runs a more aggressive defense than aranda. You’ll see more blitzing. As long as we can create pressure and he leaves the backend of the defense LSU style(press man bully coverage) we will be fine

Exactly. If people dislike pelini for other reason I’ll accept that...but the being “away” is a POOR excuse. They run spread and RPO concepts in the big 12 B1G and also FCS.
All things are relative. Of course it’ll be a huge jump in talent on opposing offenses, but he will also have a huge jump in talent at his disposal

Should have been just over 1.5M a year

He’s also been making over a million a year from Nebraska. For a while in order to hire him you’d have to surpass his Youngstown state salary by well over a million to give him a raise.

They had aranda @2.5M and still had enough set aside for a NICE raise for Brady so I’d assume they have enough left.

re: Marcel Brooks' Position

I’m less concerned with the front and more concerned with how the new DC will utilize the secondary. I for one am not a fan of our DC playing much zone at all. I prefer when we play press man coverage and allow our backend athletes to do work. As long as whatever front we use pressures the QB enough to allow us to play LSU ball on the backend I’m fine

Agreed. If the new DC is more comfortable with a 4-3 that’s ok but really not for next year. We have a few guys who can play 4-3 but they would need a solid recruiting class to fill out the roster for a full transition. IMO I’m ok with either 3-4 or 4-3 depending on personnel. They can both work but only with the proper players for each. ?????

Sounds ridiculous I agree. Most DC have the ability to run either and you’d think at the very least if the new DC wanted to run a 4-3 he would be pigeonholed into running a 3-4 at least next year. Remember when aranda got here we basically didn’t even have enough scholarship LB to start a team but he remedied that quickly. Could go either way in the long ur in but one would think with our personnel we will run a 3-4 at least next season.

Glad I’m not the only one who realizes that. It was my understanding the dude was a LB and then LB coach/DC ??

Meh...all things are relative sir. Aranda is a great DC but I don’t think he’s irreplaceable by any means.
The men you mentioned played a completely different game sir, ESPECIALLY COMPARED TO THIS YEAR.
1. More SEC teams have turned to spread offenses which increase offensive plays and possessions.
2. LSU itself has gone to a wildly successful spread thus creating more time on the field for LSU’s defense via the fact that we scored in mere minutes most of the time.
The aforementioned men played with a ball control offense that milked the clock like a herd of cows this creating less offensive opportunities for a FRESH defense.
Like I said...all things are relative. I think aranda is replaceable even in an atmosphere where there are A LOT more offensive coaches than defensive coaches worth their salt. But you sir, are silly.
